JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Coordinating Engineer-I - $112,608.00 Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) Number of Positions: 1 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on October 16, 2025 Join the Chicago Department of Transportation team as a Coordinating Engineer I. The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) implements a large Capital Plan, which has been increased over the past several years to add over $1.6B of transformative new transportation and urban design projects. CDOT is hiring one (1) Coordinating Engineer I position in the Contract Construction Section. The Contract Construction Section is responsible for administering all CDOT construction projects performed by private contractors. This can include major bridge reconstruction, transit stations, roadway reconstruction, street resurfacing, viaduct vertical clearance improvements, traffic signal modernization, street lighting improvements, bicycle facility construction, and sidewalk improvements. The position will be responsible for administering the construction contract and the associated Consultant Construction Engineering contracts. The position will require coordinating construction activities with work performed by third parties, community events, and permitting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus five (5) years of work experience in the planning, design and construction management of engineering projects or related work, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of this position or an equivalent combination of training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met. * Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is required. At the time of employment, positions must have obtained Registrations as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Illinois. * A valid State of Illinois Driver's License is required. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an applicant to successfully complete an interview which will include a writing exercise. The interviewed candidate possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following: * Previous project management experience in urban transportation design and/or construction projects such as major bridge rehabilitation or reconstruction, roadway corridor reconstruction, arterial street resurfacing, viaduct vertical clearance improvement, traffic signal modernization, and/or major intersection reconfiguration. * Previous experience with project concepts, scopes, estimates, plans, and specifications. * Previous experience working with transportation agencies, i.e., CDOT, IDOT and FHWA with knowledge of their standards and guidelines. * Previous work experience with construction documentation requirements. * Demonstrated ability to deliver projects in a complex and high-stress environment * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Power Point and Outlook For Information on our employees benefits please visit our benefits website at: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/fin/benefits-office.html For Information on our salary and title structure visit our classifications website at: https://www.chicago.gov/content/dam/city/depts/dhr/supp_info/JobClassification/2025_Classification_and_Pay_Plan.pdf APPLICATION EVALUATION: Initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application and the documents submitted.
