DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Housing Authority Inspector, you will be responsible for scheduling and conducting housing quality standards (HQS) inspections of units for the Section 8 program. Our team will rely on you to determine physical condition of housing units and their conformance to HQS and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines. These responsibilities combine your building, trades, and cost estimation knowledge with your ability to read, interpret, explain, and implement regulations, building codes, and Blair County Housing Authority policies.

In this role, you will identity and record housing violations and needed repairs; evaluate dwelling size, utility systems, safety precautions, and structural materials; and consult with landlords and tenants regarding required maintenance. This includes communicating effectively in person, in addition to writing and finalizing inspection reports. Your reports will pass or fail each unit with clear and concise comments and recommendations based on your expertise. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in the area of building structure or maintenance inspection; or
  • One year of building or trades experience which included work in the area of cost estimation; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which afforded the applicant the above required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Blair County. If no eligible candidates who live within Blair County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
