The Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) serves over 500,000 active and retired public-school employees through its defined benefit and defined contribution plans. The agency has nearly 350 employees who serve at varying capacities including: customer service representatives, benefits processers, accountants, and investment and information technology professionals.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Network Specialist 2, you will work with routers, switches, firewalls, wireless network infrastructure, network circuits for PACs and various cloud environments, Commonwealth MAN, and our business partner connections. Your work is performed in a distributed system environment and involves independent management of administrative and operational functions of PSERS' network and server infrastructure. Work is assigned in the form of specific objectives by the section supervisor and is performed independently. You will have the opportunity to direct the overall complex project needs for collaboration and communication in determining the necessity for the involvement of various technical teams (across all areas of IT), ensuring that each team completes assigned tasks as planned and according to schedule. This professional works with technical staff from various agencies or external entities as needed to complete assigned tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Network Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance; or
  • Two years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position requires possession of an active CCNA-Enterprise (Cisco Certified Network Administrator) certificate OR
  • possession of two years of full-time professional experience installing, configuring, administering, or troubleshooting Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls.
