Lab Research Analyst, Senior Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI) - Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL) Be You. The Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI) is a global leader in vaccine research, pioneering the development of novel vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics targeting infectious diseases of major global impact, including HIV-1, tuberculosis, influenza, malaria, cytomegalovirus, Zika, and other emerging pathogens. The Duke Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL), a division of the DHVI, supports a diverse portfolio of high-consequence pathogen research with enhanced biosafety and security standards. The RBL comprises three collaborative research units: the Immunology Unit, the Pathogen Unit, and the Animal Modeling Unit. These units support resident DHVI/RBL faculty and provide specialized services to other Duke investigators and external collaborators. The Lab Research Analyst, Senior will play a key role supporting multi-disciplinary research within the DHVI/RBL, ensuring data integrity, regulatory compliance, and efficient laboratory workflows to advance vaccines and medical countermeasures for emerging and re-emerging biothreats. Minimum Requirements: Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other directly related field. Work requires five years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required year of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Position Requirements: Must complete U.S. Department of Justice screening for Select Agent registration, if required. Must have at least three years of experience working with hazardous biological agents handled at BSL3. Must have at least two years of experience training lab scientists to work at BSL3. Comply with vaccination requirements when necessary. Ability and willingness to access Biosafety Level 2 or 3 (BSL-2/3) laboratories to observe experimental procedures.Achieve certification for independent work at BSL3. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with laboratory data management and QC processes. Familiarity with laboratory automation and integration of equipment with ELN and IT systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail. Be Bold. Position Description:
- Laboratory Automation & Systems Integration: Develop, test, and maintain automated workflows integrating lab instruments, analyzers, liquid handling robots (e.g., Beckman Coulter), and the ELN system. Collaborate with DHVI IT, RBL staff, and equipment vendors to implement and integrate new laboratory equipment and data systems. Establish, test, and maintain data backup and recovery protocols for lab instrumentation in partnership with DHVI IT.
