As the Lead Learning Experience Designer, you will lead the end-to-end design of engaging, learner-centered experiences by combining instructional design, UX principles, and data-driven insights. You will mentor others, own the IHOP Academy UX, and use business analytics to align learning strategy with business goals in an innovation-driven culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and evolution of IHOP's training and development experience, with a focus on learner engagement, usability, and brand alignment.
  • Apply UX principles, design thinking, adult learning theory, and game-based learning to create engaging, learner-centered experiences across digital and blended formats.
  • Develop multimedia learning assets including eLearning courses, interactive guides and manuals, checklists, job aids, and videos.
  • Acquire and maintain deep knowledge of IHOP's brand, operational standards, and team member roles to inform experience design.
  • Manage timelines and deliverables using project tracking tools (Smartsheet), ensuring on-time delivery of learning experiences.
  • Analyze learner needs and platform usage data to inform design decisions and personalize learning pathways.
  • Write clear, engaging, and brand-aligned copy for learning modules, platform interfaces, and onboarding flows.
  • Facilitate cross-functional reviews and feedback loops to ensure learning experiences meet business and learner needs.
  • Conduct usability testing and iterate based on learner feedback and performance data.
  • Stay current on emerging learning technologies and UX trends to continuously improve IHOP Academy's effectiveness and engagement.
  • Build strong partnerships across departments to align learning experience strategy with operational goals.
  • Uphold professional standards and foster a culture of inclusivity, creativity, and learner advocacy.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the evolution of IHOP Academy and the L&D team.
  • Target salary $105k-$120k depending on experience

Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, UX Design, Learning Experience Design, Organizational Development, Hospitality, or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience in learning design, with a focus on UX principles, learner engagement, and digital platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead design strategy, implement scalable systems, and mentor designers in a collaborative, cross-functional, hybrid environment.
  • Expertise in applying design thinking, adult learning principles, and data-driven insights to create learner-centered experiences.
  • Experience designing for LMS platforms and websites, with a strong grasp of navigation, visual layout, and learner flow.
  • Proficiency in eLearning and design tools such as Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Vyond.
  • Strong video production and editing skills, including storyboarding, scripting, scene blocking, talent direction, camera operation, sound, and lighting.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards, inclusive design practices, and user testing methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor tone and style to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using learner data to inform design decisions.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring all content is polished, accurate, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Experience in hospitality or food service training environments is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools such as Smartsheet and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setting (Tuesday-Thursday in office) and participate in in-person working sessions, meetings, team events, RSC events, and media production.
