relocation assistance
United States, New York, Ithaca
Sep 25, 2025
The CoCoCo Lab explores how sensory and cognitive abilities are shaped by experience and culture. Our work integrates advanced machine learning methods-such as deep generative synthesis algorithms-with large-scale experimental approaches, including massive online studies and fieldwork across the globe (see: https://www.norijacoby.com/cococo.html).

The Lab Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing the lab's empirical research. This full-time position combines technical, research, and administrative responsibilities. Core duties include assisting with experiments and data analysis, as well as designing and deploying large-scale behavioral studies through platforms like PsyNet and Dallinger, including cross-cultural projects in more than 50 countries. The Lab Manager is also responsible for managing and maintaining lab servers and digital assets, ensuring proper data preservation and documentation (e.g., via wiki pages or Confluence), and supporting daily operations by preparing and submitting IRB documents. Occasionally the work will require running in-lab or being involved in preparation of field expeditions.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Lab Manager actively contributes to the lab's research agenda-both by collaborating on ongoing projects and by leading independent initiatives. The role further involves mentoring and supervision, including guiding undergraduate students on small deployment projects and providing support to graduate students, PhDs, and external collaborators in running experiments. Because many projects focus on music cognition, the position requires familiarity with the relevant literature and methodologies across online, lab-based, and field research contexts.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree and 4 to 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent

combination.

* Coursework or advanced training (e.g., MA) in music cognition or a closely related field.

* Prior experience working in a research lab, such as through an internship or previous lab management role, including supporting lab members and collaborating both within the department and externally.

* Proven ability to manage time effectively, work independently, solve problems, and handle complex tasks with minimal supervision.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to support students in deploying experiments and preparing experimental materials.

* Hands-on experience running online experiments using PsyNet and Dallinger.

* Knowledge of Python, R, html, javascript, and jsPsych.

* Experience using prolific, or similar online platforms.

* Ability to advocate for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds.

* Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with

students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Degree in psychology, cognitive science statistics computers science, or relevant fields.

* Familiarity with Unity framework.

* Experience with field research in music cognition of cross-cultural psychology.

* Experience using AI tools, including prompt engineering. Experience training and finetuning machine learning models.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week), one-year term appointment with the possibility of extension based on performance and continued funding.

No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance are provided for this position.

Applications will be accepted through Thursday, October 2nd. Your complete application will include BOTH cover letter and resume. We have found it most efficient to save as one document prior to attaching.
