Job Details:
The Department of Computer Science in Mercer University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for a tenure track Cybersecurity faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will be effective August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a teacher-scholar with a strong commitment to undergraduate education who is eager to shape the future of cybersecurity. This position offers the opportunity to inspire and mentor talented students while contributing to a growing and nationally recognized program.

What You'll Do
  • Teach undergraduate courses in cybersecurity, information technology, and potentially computer science.
  • Guide undergraduate students through impactful research projects.
  • Assist with advising and mentoring students, including leadership of our Cyber Defense Competition Team.
  • Support our continued recognition as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense.
  • Build and sustain a vibrant research agenda that aligns with your expertise and interests.

    What We're Looking For

    We welcome candidates whose teaching and research promote innovation and problem solving in areas such as secure software development, cloud, containers, automation and orchestration, ethical hacking, virtualization, cybersecurity governance, IoT, server administration, and cyber analytics. We especially value applicants who bring hands-on, applied approaches to teaching complex topics, and experience with cyber ranges.

    Qualifications:

    Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or in a closely related area. Applicants who are ABD will be considered at the rank of Instructor until completion of the Ph.D. Applicants must have a demonstrated academic and/or professional background in cybersecurity. This person will serve a key role in the offering of our cybersecurity program at Mercer University.

    The Computer Science Department, situated in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers degrees in cybersecurity, computer science, computational science, and information science and technology. The BS degree program in computer science is accredited by ABET. Mercer University and the BS in cybersecurity is designated by the NSA as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. The Department also offers coursework in Computer Engineering for majors, Master's programs in Cybersecurity and Software Systems that are offered through Mercer's School of Engineering and coursework for Business majors in Mercer's School of Business, and Education majors in Mercer's College of Education.
