About the Opportunity
The Accounting Technician is a critical member of the UNC System Office, responsible for overseeing a variety of accounting functions focused on cash management and accounts payable. This position involves auditing and processing vendor payments, employee reimbursements, and travel reimbursements through systems such as Concur, VISP. The technician ensures timely and accurate approval of vouchers in line with the pay cycle and works diligently to uphold compliance with UNC System Office procedures, the Office of State Controller, and the Department of State Treasurer's rules and regulations. The role also involves the review and approval of campus vouchers, , and overseeing inter-campus transfers. The technician is responsible for managing 1099 processes, including year-round maintenance The position plays a key role in troubleshooting accounting workflows, researching and resolving errors, and collaborating with the Accounting Manager, Financial Analyst, Systems Accountant and other internal teams to ensure smooth financial operations. The technician contributes to the development and maintenance of system procedures for cash management and supports testing of new processes. The technician works closely with internal and external stakeholders to address complex inquiries, apply professional judgment in unique cases, and ensure efficient and compliant operations across all areas of accounts payable and cash management.

This position is a hybrid work arrangement and
will work at least three days per week onsite at the Dillon building in
downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

About the Team
The Finance and Administration division works as staff to the Board of Governors, president, and chief operating officer to support the financial management of the UNC System. This includes the areas of budget development and execution, facilities, property, capital construction, debt management, procurement policy, tuition and fee development, efficiency efforts, and analysis of policy changes with a fiscal impact.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Technical Knowledge:
- knowledge of government accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices needed to perform the work.
-Basic knowledge of program laws and regulations needed to perform the work.
-Knowledge of a variety of technology, financial systems, and software packages to create and maintain data.
-Ability to develop formulas for spreadsheets.
-Ability to verify and ensure accuracy and validity of transactions. Ability to examine accounting records to assure adherence to accounting standards and regulations.
-Ability to maintain and manage accounting records of moderate variety and complexity.
Problem Solving:
-Ability to select best solution from several options or where no precedent exists.
-Ability to make suggestions for and/or implement process improvements in the work unit.
-Ability to interpret oral and/or written guidelines to solve problems.
