| About the College/Unit/Department |
The University of Georgia is establishing a new independent School of Medicine in Athens, building on the success of the Augusta University / University of Georgia Medical Partnership, which has been educating physicians in Athens since 2010.
The establishment of a new public medical school at
UGA comes as the state faces a significant shortage of medical professionals. The population of Georgia, the nation's eighth largest state, has surged to approximately 11 million residents, straining existing medical infrastructure and resulting in longer wait times for appointments and reduced access to care. Georgia currently ranks 40th in the nation for the number of active patient care physicians per capita and 41st for the number of public medical students per capita.
As a top 20 public university with a thriving research enterprise and vast public service network, the University of Georgia is well positioned to produce more highly trained physicians, alleviate physician shortages, and improve the state's ability to provide quality health care for its citizens.
The School of Medicine will be located on UGA's Health Sciences Campus in Athens, home to UGA's College of Public Health and the AU/
UGA Medical Partnership. The Medical Partnership currently enrolls 60 students per class, but a $100 million new medical school building, to be funded by a 1:1 public / private match, will enable the
UGA School of Medicine to grow to 120 students per class in the future.
The University of Georgia School of Medicine has been formally recognized as an applicant for accreditation after being granted
Applicant Status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (
LCME), beginning a multi-year accreditation process. |

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, biomedical research, biology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics or equivalent, with at least 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Preferred: PhD in biotechnology, biomedical research, biology, biochemistry, or equivalent, with at least 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Experience in histology and/or microscopy.
- Experience working in a core facility.
- Experience in large data transfer and analysis, collecting, processing and analyzing biological data from a variety of sources.

| Position Summary |
The Spatial Biology Laboratory Technician will work as part of the Spatial Biology Shared Resource in the inaugural Research Center at the new School of Medicine. The Laboratory Technician will be part of a dedicated team of professionals and technicians that provide comprehensive support and expertise to facilitate spatial biology research. This role will contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research projects aimed to understanding the spatial organization of gene and protein expression within tissues and provide analytical services related to data acquisition, management and quality control. Additional responsibilities include managing, recording and analyzing data from clinical trials. |

- Meticulously follow standard operating procedures

- High proficiency of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety especially related to spatial technologies (GeoMx, CosMx, spatial transcriptomics and multiplex immunofluorescence) and various molecular techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR, sequencing, etc)

- Maintain and organize laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment, ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations, collaborate effectively with our laboratory members and investigators
- Independently perform a wide range of molecular biology techniques
- Execute tissue processing and imaging protocols
- Assist in the development and optimization of novel experimental protocols for spatial biology
- Maintain organized and well-documented records of experimental data and analysis results
- Work within multi-disciplinary team of researchers to perform quality assessments and corrections on large datasets
- Create data visualizations to communicate insights
- Develop analysis plans and write statistical reports
