Job Description

We're excited to announce a newly created opportunity at Argo for a talented and business-minded Attorney to join our dynamic legal team. This role can be based in any of Argo's offices, with a strong preference for Chicago or New York City.

The ideal candidate will bring direct experience or meaningful exposure to corporate insurance-related transactions, including business acquisitions, divestitures, and real estate or commercial leasing matters. Experience across a variety of distribution channels-such as MGAs, Programs, and Fronting arrangements is highly valued. The successful candidate will also possess deep expertise in negotiating a wide range of contracts, from vendor, distribution, and claims service agreements to those involving the protection of company assets and information.

Attorneys with experience in both admitted and non-admitted insurance products will thrive in this environment. While not a primary focus of the role, regulatory knowledge, governance experience, and policy drafting skills will add meaningful value to the team.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Provide legal counsel on state and federal insurance regulatory requirements, including market conduct, licensing, rate and form filings, unfair trade practices, and producer management.
  • Partner with the regulatory and compliance teams to develop and implement regulatory-compliant products and processes.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations impacting P&C insurance and translate legal developments into practical guidance for business units.
  • Assist in the drafting and enforcement of corporate legal and compliance policies.

Commercial Contracts & Corporate Transactions

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including agreements related to vendors, insurance distribution, claims services, reinsurance, and the protection of company assets and information.
  • Support corporate transactions such as business acquisitions, divestitures, and real estate and commercial leasing matters.
  • Partner with other members of the legal team to develop and maintain contract templates, legal playbooks, and a library of key provisions to drive efficiency and consistency across agreements.
  • Develop and implement policies and processes to enable efficient transacting, including vendor management and procurement workflows, legal request intake and tracking, and the effective use of the company's contract management system.

Strategic Legal Counsel

  • Advise senior leadership and cross-functional teams on the legal implications of strategic, operations and tactical initiatives.
  • Provide thoughtful and timely legal advice to support business objectives while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with special legal projects and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate.
  • Licensed attorney in a United States jurisdiction
  • 5-10 years' experience practicing insurance regulatory/compliance law and contract management.
  • A strong focus on execution in getting things done right, coupled with a proven ability to consistently produce and deliver expected results to all stakeholders, while demonstrating top-notch customer service.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of commercial and financial impact of commercial transactions and execution of business strategy.
  • Superior time management skills are necessary with the ability to work independently against strict deadlines.
  • Critical thinking ability to anticipate and proactively and efficiently resolve complex matters.
  • Ability to research and respond to criticisms, inquiries, and requests for information from internal and external sources.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
