The Assistant General Counsel will report to the General Counsel within Crowe's Firm Risk Management business unit and will have significant exposure to the company's partners, management, and all functional areas.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage litigation and dispute resolution. This includes working with external counsel to achieve strategic goals; developing case assessments and budgets; conducting internal fact-finding and interviews; facilitating discovery; monitoring pleadings, motions and overall case posture; participating in settlement conferences, mediations and trials; advising firm leadership and engagement teams on litigation risks and outcomes.
  • Manage the Firm's response to civil and regulatory subpoenas, including overseeing document collection, conducting custodian interviews, managing email search and retrieval, and supervising document review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal counsel to engagement teams to proactively resolve disputes and mitigate risk.
  • Advise professionals and leadership on regulatory investigations and firm risks by applying laws, regulations and professional standards (including SEC, PCAOB and AICPA requirements) governing the accounting profession with seasoned litigation judgment.
  • Develop and deliver training on litigation and regulatory risk to drive continuous improvement.
  • Learn in detail our data platforms, information repositories, organizational structure, and related systems to meet legal preservation requirements;
  • Supervise and mentor team members to support career growth.

Key Qualifications:

  • Crowe's Firm Risk Management business unit and its Legal Department are critical components of the firm's organizational structure. The Assistant General Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory Affairs will support the General Counsel and other Crowe personnel in the development of overall risk management and legal strategy and assist with its implementation. To perform this function, the Assistant General Counsel must learn general firm practice in a wide variety of areas, proactively identify issues presenting risk to the firm, and act as a driver of good business process. A successful candidate will commit to learning Crowe's multiple business lines at a detailed level and be a leader capable of developing and maintaining close working relationships with the firm's other business leaders. Members of the Legal Department must lead, educate, and assist our business leaders in a collaborative manner, seeking practical and creative solutions to the issues confronted.
  • Our attorneys are expected to work on a broad variety of legal matters outside of their central role. In addition to the above Role and Responsibilities, the Assistant General Counsel will review, revise, and negotiate professional services and technology agreements; utilize our contract management software for such agreements; and assist with merger and acquisition activities.
  • The Legal Department manages a large volume of requests, and candidates must have the ability to fluidly manage workload in accordance with business objectives and internal client priorities. Candidates for this position must possess superb organizational skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, and writing and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be team oriented and unafraid of rolling up their sleeves to take on tasks as needed.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technology and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office are required. Additional experience that will be helpful for this role - but is not required - includes knowledge of employment law, bankruptcy law and procedures and data security and providing advice on corporate governance.
  • Candidates must have at least ten years of relevant experience in a law firm, government agency, or in-house counsel role and be admitted to a state bar in good standing. Preferred candidates will have experience in the public accounting industry or a CPA license.

We expect the candidate to uphold Crowe's values of Care, Trust, Courage, and Stewardship. These values define who we are. We expect all of our people to act ethically and with integrity at all times.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Crowe is not sponsoring for work authorization at this time.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
