POSITION SPECIFICS

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Genomics Technologist to join our Genome Sciences research core facility at the Penn State College of Medicine. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting diverse research projects for investigators across the institution by providing high-throughput genomic services. This position involves performing a wide array of complex molecular biology techniques, maintaining state-of-the-art equipment, and ensuring the smooth functioning of laboratory operations.

This is an on-site, in-person position in Hershey, PA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex molecular and genomic testing, including DNA/RNA extraction and QC, next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries, qPCR
  • Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment, including sequencers (e.g., Illumina), single cell platforms (10x Genomics chromium, Illumina), microarray scanners (Illumina)
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all test results through rigorous quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
  • Maintain meticulous and organized records of all experimental procedures, results, and quality metrics.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment, communicating effectively with customers and colleagues to ensure great customer service
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment by adhering to all safety protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot assays and instrumentation to ensure the laboratory operates efficiently and reliably.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior hands-on experience with molecular techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR.
  • Prior experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of molecular genetics, genomics, and general chemistry.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $56,200.00 - $81,500.00.
