Job Summary: The advanced practice provider shall provide services for an on-site health clinic in a Federal facility in the onsite employee health and wellness clinic for the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC). This unique opportunity serves the occupational health clinic supporting the island's 400 federal and contracted employees comprising of scientists, veterinarians, administrative, and support staff. The PIADC has been protecting America's agriculture from foreign animal disease for more than 50 years. This 840-acre, three-mile-long island is located just east of Orient Point, NY. This position reports to the Acuity Program Manager and operationally manages the three clinical staff. Location: Must be within driving distance to the Plum Island/Orient Point, NY area. Duties and Responsibilities: * Conducts pre-employment physicals for all new personnel (e.g. those that are not currently enrolled in the Occupational Health Program) to assure that potential candidates are medically qualified to meet their anticipated job functions. * Takes blood samples and maintain serum banking for samples (including storage and destruction) taken in accordance with PIADC policies and procedures and oversees destruction of samples, as required. * Provides rabies, tetanus, influenza and other vaccines for staff as required by medical protocols. * Collects urine samples as part of the Facility's drug testing program(s) and is responsible for sending such samples to the designated testing center(s). * Provides medical consultations for "return to work" clearances following occupational health injuries or illnesses. * Conducts work related post-exposure non-emergency response such as first aid or post-exposure prophylaxis. * Provides vaccinations and travel medicine consultations for employees traveling to foreign countries on official business. * Conducts Foreign Animal Disease School student medical condition screening and recommends special accommodations as appropriate. * Provides for walk-in consultation and incidental first-aid and minor care. * Provides referrals as appropriate. * Provides vaccines for general health purposes (e.g. flu shots). * Conducts seminars and training on topics of general wellness and illness preventative education. * Conducts training on the proper use of exercise equipment provided to staff for their use at PIADC. * Provides nicotine replacement/smoking cessation program and counseling and similar wellness programs (e.g. nutrition and weight management). * Maintains all health records in accordance with privacy laws, medical protocols and DHS policies. Qualifications: * Must hold a current AANP or ANCC certification for Nurse Practitioners, or NCCPA certification for Physician Assistants. * Maintains a current unrestricted license from the state of New York. * Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). * Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an NP or PA. * Experience with electronic medical records (EMR). * Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Have fluent oral and written communication skills in English. Preferred Qualifications * Three (3) to five (5) years' experience as a NP or PA. * Experience in Occupational Medicine preferred. Physical Requirements and Work Conditions * Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. * Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
