THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections at SCI Fayette is seeking a meticulous and committed Accounting Assistant to enhance our professional accounting team. This role is essential for managing the financial operations related to inmate accounts within our facility. As a key member of the accounting department, you will oversee the accurate processing of financial transactions for inmates, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and institutional policies. Your keen attention to detail and strong organizational abilities will be crucial for maintaining precise financial records and delivering outstanding service to both inmates and staff. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will manage the accuracy and timeliness of inmate accounts for your designated institution. Your role will require you to maintain professionalism while collaborating with various departments to ensure effective communication and address any discrepancies that may occur during reconciliations. Responsibilities include typing memos, providing account summaries, responding to phone inquiries, and entering data into QuickBooks. You will also be tasked with accurately posting accounting information to ledgers, books, registers, and journals, making necessary adjustments to accounts, preparing daily summaries and monthly cumulative reports, conducting routine trial balances, and generating standard financial reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful Completion of Basic Training in Elizabethtown, PA.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
