As an Equipment Operator with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you play a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roadways, especially during the challenging winter months when effective snow removal is essential. Your duties encompass not only snow plowing but also participation in various construction projects, where your skills are crucial in shaping the infrastructure and safeguarding the traveling public. Each day presents you with physically demanding tasks that underscore the importance of teamwork and dedication among your colleagues. In this position, you will operate heavy machinery while also taking on the responsibility of performing minor repairs and routine maintenance on your equipment and vehicles. Furthermore, you will be tasked with maintaining comprehensive records by completing daily logs and reports that document equipment usage and maintenance history. This careful documentation is vital for ensuring operational efficiency and fostering accountability within the team. At the conclusion of each day, you can take pride in the knowledge that your contributions significantly enhance road safety and improve the quality of life for many residents. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime, travel, and shift work may be required. Dual shifts in effect November through March.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,988.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
