The RCRA Specialist will provide full-spectrum hazardous waste management services at the Conforming Storage Facility (CSF) on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point. This includes coordination of waste container deliveries and pickups, regulatory documentation review, container inspections, and compliance with RCRA, DOT, OSHA, and USMC environmental standards. This role supports DLA Disposition Services (DLA-DS) and MCAS Cherry Point in maintaining a fully compliant hazardous waste storage and handling program. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice. RCRA Specialist - Hazardous Waste Responsibilities Include:
- Schedule and coordinate hazardous waste container deliveries from generating activities to the Consolidated Storage Facility (CSF).
- Receive and verify all incoming waste containers on-site.
- Review and ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate (e.g., DD Form 1348-1A, Hazardous Waste Profile Sheets, analytical data).
- Collaborate with generating activities to correct any discrepancies in paperwork.
- Confirm all containers are properly labeled, in DoT-compliant shippable containers, and marked with the correct Department of Defense Activity Address Code (DODAAC).
- Store hazardous waste containers in compliance with the RCRA Hazardous Waste (HW) Part B permit requirements.
- Operate and maintain Material Handling Equipment (MHE) such as forklifts, drum dollies, and pallet jacks.
- Manage and update container status information in the Hazardous Materials Management System (HMMS).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
RCRA Specialist - Hazardous Waste Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, or RCRA operations.
- Experience in DoD, military, or federal installation environments preferred.
- Familiarity with hazardous waste documentation, manifesting, and waste tracking systems (e.g., HMMS).
- Working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DOT, and state-level environmental regulations (e.g., NCAC, NCGS).
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (29 CFR 1910.120).
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Training.
- DOT HAZMAT Transportation Certification.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- MHE (Forklift, Pallet Jack, Drum Dolly) Certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Strong knowledge of RCRA, HAZWOPER, and DOT waste handling procedures.
- Skilled in hazardous material labeling, documentation, and regulatory recordkeeping.
- Proficient in using Hazardous Materials Management System (HMMS) or equivalent environmental databases.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance tracking.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordination with multiple agencies and personnel.
- Ability to safely operate MHE and perform physical labor related to waste handling.
- Competent in problem-solving, inspection reporting, and corrective action implementation.
