Position Summary
The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ( UNC) is seeking an accomplished and motivated individual for a full-time research faculty position. This position is posted as open rank (fixed term, variable or tenure/tenure track).

The desired applicant would develop and run a successful NIH-funded laboratory focused on the study of chronic pain, overlapping pain conditions and/or field related to anesthesiology (e.g. sleep). Ideal candidates will have a track record of independent NIH (or equivalent) funding. Additionally, this individual will be expected to have national or emerging national recognition for their work and be highly motivated to contribute to UNC's research mission and department growth by collaborating with and mentoring other learners and researchers within the UNC Department of Anesthesiology and/or the greater UNC-CH research environment, serving on the departmental research committee and occasionally teaching research workshops and courses. This position will provide the candidate with access to an incredibly collaborative interdisciplinary research environment within the University, access to state of the art facilities and resources, and Department support.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in a relevant field (e.g., physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience, pain research).
  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality research in pain, anesthesiology or related fields.
  • Strong publication record in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to secure external funding (e.g., NIH grants).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Prefer an individual who can conduct both independent and collaborative research.
  • Experience with mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty.
