 The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Water Distribution Supervisor for the Water Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Water Operations, the position is responsible for the management of the Drinking Water Distribution System Maintenance and Repair program in the Department of Public Works (DPW) for the City of Worcester. This position will coordinate and oversee the daily operations, maintenance and emergency response activities of the program including supervision of staff, management of assets, vehicles, and inventory, and ensure safe, efficient work practices. The Water Distribution Supervisor will also support capital planning, budgeting, and project coordination efforts. Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL TASKS: 
 
 
 Coordinate the maintenance and repair of water mains, water services, hydrants, valves and water metersCoordinate the emergency response process related to water main breaks and customer water emergenciesOversee buildings and grounds maintenance at the Water Operations headquartersManage the Water Operations fleet of vehicles and equipment, including assigning vehicles and tracking maintenance and repairsManage inventory of stock and equipmentTrack program progress and prepare reports as neededOrganize, and maintain Water Operations assets in an asset management systemSupport Water Engineering in planning and coordinating projects to upgrade and replace water system componentsProvide support to Water Operations administration in development of annual budget, capital improvement planning and capital equipment purchases related to the programOrganize, assign, supervise, and inspect the daily work of assigned employeesReceive, investigate, and follow through on complaints from the general publicObserve personnel at work to ensure safe working conditions and take action to correct unsafe work proceduresAttend and participate in staff meetings, vendor meetings, and other relevant meetingsParticipate in training opportunities and skill building exercisesFollow and adhere to Department and City government rules, regulations, policies, and proceduresDirect, assist, instruct, and train operational staff in the safe and professional operation of the DivisionFollow progress of work, check efficiencies of employees, and make recommendations to the Director for personnel adjustments as necessary to obtain proper flow of work and optimum performanceAnticipate or investigate causes of delay or inadequate performance and take corrective measures as neededMake recommendations for improvements in procedures or methods to increase effectiveness and reduce costsMaintain discipline, morale, and harmonious personnel relationsHandle complaints and grievances within limits of established policyAssist with rating and evaluating employees' performance

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
 
 
 Knowledge of the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of municipal water distribution systemsFundamental understanding of water distribution system hydraulics and the applications thereof in the field; often on short noticeAbility to read and interpret plans and specifications for water distribution systemsAbility to work with employees of all levels and across all divisions within the DPW&PAbility to make sound decisions with minimal directionAbility to manage crews of workers and projects concurrentlyExcellent organizational skills in order to maintain correct and updated inventory of stock, equipment and vehiclesExcellent computer skills particularly related to updating and preparing reportsRegular onsite attendance is required
 
 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
 
 
 High school diploma or equivalentTen (10) years of experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of a municipal water distribution systemTen (10) years of experience managing personnel and productivityKnowledge of the principles and practices of drinking water distribution system operations and maintenanceMassachusetts Water Operator Distribution License Grade D2Ability to obtain Massachusetts Water Operators Distribution License Grade D3 within one (1) year of hire with a goal of ultimately obtaining a Grade D4 Distribution license within five (5) years of hireBasic computer skills including skill in organizing and maintaining an asset management system Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
 
 Associate's Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or related fieldTwelve (12) years of experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of a municipal water distribution systemTwelve (12) years of experience managing personnel and productivityFive (5) years of experience in the maintenance of buildings and groundsFive (5) years of experience in managing a large vehicle fleetMassachusetts Water Operations Distribution License Grade D3Massachusetts Water Operators Distribution License Grade D4
 
 SALARY RANGE: $91,667 - $109,408 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
