Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager II (Academic & Administrative Operations) for the School of Social Work. Reporting to the Director of Business Services, this position plays a pivotal role in managing the fiscal and operational functions of a dynamic academic environment that values teamwork, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
The Business Manager II is a key contributor in a fast-paced, supportive environment, ensuring efficient business operations and the highest standards of fiscal stewardship. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional who demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and strategic thinking, approaching challenges with empathy and a solution-focused mindset.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:


  • Financial Operations Management | Oversees unrestricted, endowment, and gift fund operations, ensuring fiscal integrity and compliance with University and GAAP standards.

  • Data-Driven Decision Support | Manages financial reporting, reconciliation, and forecasting to provide clear, actionable and resource allocation.

  • Transactional Oversight: | Serves as approver for unrestricted activities and ensures smooth execution of daily business functions, including purchasing, payroll, travel activity, and reimbursements.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration | Builds and maintains strong partnerships with University Central Offices, SSW program leads, and external stakeholders to facilitate timely, compliant, and customer-focused operations.

  • Customer Service Excellence | Provides responsive, solution-oriented support, modeling a high level of professionalism while fostering an environment that values learning, collaboration, and mutual support.

  • Operational Efficiency | Continuously evaluates and refines business processes, implements best practices, and contributes to a culture of innovation and service that enables the School's academic and administrative success.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field and at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting/business function; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Expert in the use of Excel and other advanced spreadsheet/data analysis tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters and respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, and to work calmly under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong writing skills sufficient to draft reports and correspondence that is clear and concise.
  • Ability and desire to work cooperatively with people from all levels in the University.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • 5+ years' experience in a university environment.
  • Knowledge of Rutgers University budget and accounting procedures
  • Experience using software such as EPBCS Financial Management, Oracle General Ledger, Tableau, Oracle Cloud, PeopleSoft HCM, RAPPS, or similar systems.
  • Experience with Rutgers systems (e.g., HCM, ROCS, Marketplace).

Equipment Utilized

  • Standard office equipment.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Smartsheet, Teams, Zoom, & other University systems & Applications.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Typical office environment.
