About the Role:


We have an exciting opportunity to support our Technology team as a Middleware Software Engineer based in Shelton, CT. The Middleware Software Engineer will contribute to the development and support of APIs and middleware solutions that connect Subway's internal systems with external partner platforms. You'll work with cloud-native technologies, primarily on AWS, and collaborate with senior engineers to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing integrations.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Develop and maintain APIs and middleware services using AWS technologies.
  • Build and enhance integration components that enable data exchange between systems, ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Assist in building integration components for internal and external systems.
  • Support the implementation of secure and efficient data flows across platforms.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand integration requirements and contribute to solution design. Participate in technical discussions and help translate business needs into technical solutions.


  • Participate in testing, debugging, and documentation of integration solutions.
  • Ensure quality and maintainability of code through thorough testing and clear documentation.
  • Support adherence to coding standards, data governance, and security protocols.
  • Follow best practices and organizational guidelines to maintain compliance and data integrity.
  • Learn and apply best practices in cloud-based integration and middleware architecture.
  • Continuously improve skills and stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies.



Qualifications (some examples listed below):



  • Proficiency or familiarity with JavaScript/Node.js.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure (through coursework, internships, or personal projects).
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, and secure communication protocols like OAuth.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced technical environment.
