Medical Lab Scientist, Specialist with Offsite Labs. Monday - Friday, working an 8-hour shift between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.General Description Administer and coordinate technical activities in all testing areas of Offsite Laboratories - to include Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Immunology, Microscopy, etc. Duties and Responsibilities May perform any or all of the following duties:

Please clean up this information, but keep in the same order: Required Qualifications at this Level: Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field. Experience: Five years of laboratory experience (including one year at Duke) required to gain specific knowledge of routine and specialized procedures and tests in specified are of specialty (e.g. Serology, Special Hematology). Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: Generalist/Specialty Certification by a nationally recognized board/agency (required). Certification will vary depending on laboratory. Master in Science in lieu of certification for Biochemical Genetics Laboratory. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Working knowledge of routine and specialized procedures and tests in specified are of specialty. * Experience involving patient contact, customer service in a medical setting, strong communication skills -both verbal and written. * Considerable knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and terminology used in the clinical laboratory. * Considerable knowledge of computers and computerized lab equipment. * Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling to anticipate and intervene in potential safety concerns. * Ability to demonstrate required dexterity, knowledge, and ability to complete assigned laboratory tasks and skills, attention to detail and compliance with all appropriate regulatory and safety requirements. * Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. * Use behaviors that support achievement of balance scorecard targets. * Ability to perform independently in resolving lab problems. * Ability to plan and refine procedures for use in medical diagnostic laboratory testing in the assigned field of work. * Ability to develop work assignments. * Ability to make accurate observations and prepare written reports. * Ability to train, orient and evaluate the job performance of personnel/students. * Must have strong written communication skills. * Have advanced knowledge and understanding of assigned procedures. * Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status. * Guide professional growth of others through role modeling, coaching and mentoring. Distinguishing Characteristics of this Level: Monitor testing to ensure that acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained. - Check personnel to assure competence prior to test reporting. - All aspects of Proficiency testing are properly followed, reviewed and remedial actions are taken and documented following failures. - Quality assurance and Quality Control programs are established, maintained and are effective in identifying problems. - Procedure manuals are available and have reviewed annually by director, manager, supervisor or analytical specialist. Responsibilities delegated from the director or technical supervisor include: - Assure remedial action is taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications. - Ensure that patient testing results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly. - Participate in the annual evaluation, competency testing and documentation for all testing personnel. Receive, review and prepare technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results; coordinate the preparation of report and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate corrective action. Assist in annual validation of Electronic Test Catalogue.
