Position Summary:

The Bed & Bread Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, logistics, and personnel management of the Bed & Bread program. This role ensures the effective and safe delivery of food services to the community through fleet oversight and staff coordination. This position collects and reports key performance indicators, ensures compliance with health and safety standards, and supports program expansion through route scheduling and community engagement. The Bed & Bread Manager requires hands-on leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to The Salvation Army's mission of serving those in need.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Schedule all Bed & Bread drivers and oversee routing, delivery operations, and logistics to ensure equitable food distribution.
  • Coordinate and oversee volunteer group activities associated with Bed & Bread truck operations.
  • Conduct daily inspections of Bed & Bread trucks to ensure cleanliness, operational condition, and adequate supply levels.
  • Ensure all Bed & Bread trucks adhere to food safety guidelines and health department regulations.
  • Coordinate staff training, enforce safety protocols, and investigate incidents or accidents as needed.
  • Provide hands-on operational support and perform staff duties when necessary to maintain service continuity.
  • Supervise and support Bed & Bread personnel to ensure high performance and program integrity.
  • Manage routine vehicle maintenance and ensure fleet compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Review and approve employee timecards; submit payroll data accurately and on schedule.
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure adequate food supply for each Bed & Bread truck.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, deliveries, and distributions.
  • Track and report waste, damaged goods, and returns according to policy.
  • Maintain program documentation including sign-in sheets, data tracking, and reporting for grants and funders.
  • Submit monthly activity reports, impact data, and vehicle mileage logs as required.
  • Represent the Bed & Bread program at community events and outreach activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Consistently uphold The Salvation Army and Harbor Light policies, procedures, and mission.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:



  • Associate's degree in human services, Business, Logistics, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 2-4 years of experience in food distribution, warehouse operations, community outreach, or nonprofit program management.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience required.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Working knowledge of food safety regulations and warehouse best practices.


Computer Skills:



  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and data entry


Certificates and Licenses:



  • Complete Safe from Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Obtain ServSafe manager certification within 30 days of employment
  • Valid Michigan Chauffeur's License and MVR approval from The Salvation Army
  • MDOT medical clearance
  • TB. test and police clearance required
