The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the rural population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed. |
| Job Duties |
The SoDM Office of Dental Education and Informatics centrally manages the curriculum mapping and assessments for all courses - pre-clinical and clinical. The 8X10 (Foundational Biological Sciences) Course Coordinator provides specific staffing for the 8X10 Foundational Biological Sciences courses that run for 5 terms and represents over 500 student contact hours. The 8X10 courses include smaller "modules" that present the students with instruction in each of the foundational biological disciplines. There are module directors for each of these instructional units and all modules are administered by the 8X10 Course Director.
The Director of Course Management coordinates the work of all course coordinators - pre-clinical as well as clinical. The integration of the SoDM curriculum necessitates collaboration between the faculty, staff and administrators to properly manage this large and complex clinical program.
The 8X10 (Foundational Biological Sciences) Course Coordinator provides the staffing support needed to run the lectures, seminars, simulations, exams and schedules for basic science course modules.
Contingent upon availability of funds.
Specific duties include:
(10%) Working with the Director of Course Management, the 8X10 Course Director and related Module Directors, schedule all the lecture and laboratory sessions in accordance with the curriculum and the SoDM academic calendar. (10%) Working with the Director of Course Management, the 8X10 Course Director and related Module Directors, load all student encounters with all assessments in the course syllabus, and rectify any syllabus scheduling conflicts before assigning the course to students. ( 20%) Working with the Director of Course Management, the 8X10 Course Director and related Module Directors, maintain the working list of exam questions and summative assessments with their associated relative values; making changes as they are needed. ( 20%) Working in the exam management system, codes exam questions for the 8X10, 8X20, 8X30, and 8X40 course modules. ( 20%) Working with the Director of Course Management, the 8X10 Course Director and related Module Directors, trains and supports the basic science faculty in the testing of student didactic performance using the coded assessments, utilizing the assessment management system to create and run specialized reports for faculty and administrators. ( 5%) Implements data management procedures and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. This includes management of FERPA-protected student grade data and diligent evaluation of student violations of honor code and other professionalism issues as they relate to grading of didactic performance. ( 5%) Applies project planning and project management methodologies for assigned projects. This includes the advanced coding of the basic science curriculum in all technologies. ( 5%) Analyzes data flow and develops and implements integration plans to improve data integrity and process flow. This may involve the creation of macros and/or integration scripts. ( 5%) Coordinates with vendors, key users and technical staff to identify integration requirements and the impact of software upgrades on those requirements. Then applies system upgrades as they become available.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the
UNC Optional Retirement Program (
ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b, 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (
TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP if they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.

| Minimum Education/Experience |
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory; or a Bachelor's degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory and two years of experience in educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Demonstrated knowledge of educational rubric design/implementation, assessment management systems, learning content management systems, survey creation and implementation of computer-hosted systems. |
