Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Powder Coat Painter to join our production team. This role is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing a variety of metal components using powder coating equipment. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, understands proper surface preparation techniques, and can consistently produce high-quality finishes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare parts for coating by sanding, grinding, masking, washing, or applying pretreatment processes.
- Set up and operate powder coating spray guns, booths, and curing ovens.
- Apply powder coatings to parts using proper gun settings, techniques, and film thickness requirements.
- Monitor curing temperatures and times to ensure proper finish and adhesion.
- Inspect finished products for quality, uniformity, and coverage; perform touch-ups as needed.
- Read and follow work orders, job travelers, and customer specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized painting area, including equipment cleaning and basic maintenance.
- Safely handle chemicals, powders, and equipment according to company policies and OSHA guidelines.
- Assist with racking, un-racking, and material handling as needed.
- Report equipment malfunctions, material shortages, or quality issues to supervisors.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in powder coating, industrial painting, or a related manufacturing role preferred.
- Knowledge of powder coating techniques, spray equipment, and curing processes.
- Ability to read measurements, interpret specifications, and follow detailed instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with pretreatment systems (iron phosphate, wash systems, etc.).
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Knowledge of thickness gauges, gloss meters, or other quality inspection tools.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to powders, chemicals, and heat from curing ovens.
- Requires the use of PPE including respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
