Job Summary:

CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Technical Expert for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Ventilation (HVAC/R) products at CSA Group to provide senior technical leadership within the Technical Management Department, overseeing technical support and guidance across all certification offices and Network Partners internationally. This role ensures expert-level technical knowledge is applied to maintain high standards, supports accreditation requirements, and delivers consistent global services through training and technical oversight. The position actively participates in standards development, communicates new requirements, and develops advanced training programs. Building and leveraging a strong industry network, the Technical Expert also promotes CSA Group's interests and contributes to business growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides clear, timely technical guidance and solutions, helps interpret standards, develops compliance paths for new technologies, and resolves technical disputes among stakeholders.

  • Maintaining SME knowledge by staying current and expert in relevant business areas by engaging in industry committees, networking with other experts, staying informed through literature and events, and sharing knowledge to support business needs.

  • Builds and leverages a strong industry network, contributes thought leadership through research and presentations, and identifies opportunities to advance CSA's interests.

  • Assists with complex projects, mentors staff and acts as a technical expert in legal investigations related to product incidents.

  • Establishes and maintains technical benchmarks, ensures global consistency in standards and practices, communicates changes and technical decisions, and aligns senior technical staff across regions.

  • Delivers training and coaching, fosters open technical discussions and supports the development of technical staff and training systems.

  • Works to maintain company accreditations, develops certification documentation templates, supports audits and gap analysis, and contributes to strategic company initiatives.

  • Ensures expertise in safety practices, contributes to job safety analysis, identifies hazards during site visits, completes safety training, and supports emergency response procedures and HSSE initiatives.

  • Supports standards research activities.

Education & Experience:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline of engineering and professional registration is preferable.

  • Must have proven analytical skills and technical experience in interpretation of technical requirements within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Experience in standards development activities.

  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in the HVAC/R area.

Skills:

  • Must have exceptional interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), and presentation skills to make complex ideas and concepts sound simple.

  • Strong training skills must be evident since training of staff and passing along knowledge and experiences are critical elements of this position.

  • Strong leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion and constructively manage conflict.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills are necessary.

  • Must have in-depth knowledge about electrical safety standards and codes in the HVAC/R product area (examples: IEC/UL/CSA 60335-2-40, 60335-2-34, 60335-2-80, 60335-2-89, 60335-2-24, ANSI/ASHRAE 15, CSA B52, CSA C22.2 No. 113, UL 507, etc.).

  • Must be flexible and perform well in a team environment under pressure, with multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Must be willing to travel globally.

  • Must have demonstrated competence for the position and commitment to technical excellence.

  • Must have strong computer skills.
