Summary Job Description: Charge Nurse-Pre-Op Part-Time I First Shift (Mon & Tues) Operating Room I Lexington Baptist Health Lexington Surgical Services Department encompasses several key areas: the Pre-Op Department, 20 operating rooms with a business office staff responsible for scheduling, a Postoperative Care Unit, an Endoscopy Department with dedicated pre- and post-op areas, and a Sterile Processing Department. Description:
- Under the direction of Unit Director, Clinical House Supervisor, +/or Designee, provides supervision of workflow and staff for a designated shift in overseeing the efficient functioning of the department.
- Assures the provision of patient care, by addressing performance, risk management, patient, family, and physician issues/concerns as appropriate.
- Charge Nurse is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.
- Manages shift operations for department/unit, adjusting staff assignments as acuity, census, staffing and priorities change.
- Assists in identifying staff to supplement schedule, including call-in coverage. Communicates all staffing schedule changes to Clinical House Supervisor and/or Staffing Office.
- Coordinates meal and break time for all assigned staff.
- Delegates responsibilities within scope of practice and provides guidance to co-workers in assessment, clinical skills, and problem solving and networks with preceptors of new staff to facilitate orientation.
- Collaborates with all disciplines and departments to resolve issues affecting patient flow and throughput.
- Rounds with a purpose utilizing key questions to obtain feedback from patients and families.
- Resolve any issues at point of care.
- Facilitates bed placement and patient flow on unit in collaboration of the Clinical House Supervisor and ACC.
Requirements:
- Current RN licensure and work permit in Kentucky.
- Associate degree.
- Must obtain BSN within 5 years.
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
- ACLS and/or other designated unit specific certifications, training and requirements.
