Your role in our success:

The Damage Prevention Coordinator I position is responsible for data collection, analysis, root cause determination, communication and training on damages caused to underground facilities by either Chesapeake employees or outside individuals such as, contractors or homeowners. This individual will assist in determination of costs associated with damages and billing / invoicing for repair of damages. The organizational goal or objective for this position will be to assist more senior team members in providing the technical resources, advisory services, project oversight, and guidance to successfully implement, and maintain, a comprehensive best in class Damage Prevention Program.

What you'll be working on...



  • Collaborates in the education program for employees, contractors and municipalities on 811 laws and safe digging requirements.
  • Completes investigations on all reported damages to company underground facilities for determination of causation of the damage.
  • Works with operations to analyze data on damage to determine amount to be invoiced to party causing the damage to be repaired.
  • Collects and analyzes trends on damages and causes to determine where education is needed.
  • Identifies frequent offenders, and review locate ticket details with the goal of reduction of incidents.


Who you are...



  • High School Diploma; Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred. Relevant or field related work experience, as approved by leadership, may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 1 year in asset protection, compliance, and risk management preferred.
  • Experience in the utilities sector (propane, natural gas, or electric) a plus.
  • Standard (Non-DOT) Driver's License
  • Familiarity with municipalities digging protocols
  • Familiarity with incident reporting and root cause analysis
  • Familiarity with inspecting facility damage
  • Familiarity forecasting repair costs
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and demonstrate courtesy, tact and good judgment and professional conduct when communicating in person, by telephone
    and electronic communications
  • Ability to learn damage prevention regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to read and interpret maps
