Education and Experience: Bachelors degree.

Substitution of experience for education: Experience in Human Resources can substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.

Overview

A Compensation Consultant is employed by the Department of Human Resources (DOHR) and provides market research, equity analysis, and job architecture development to assist agencies in compensation planning. This is the working level classification in the Compensation Consultant series and is responsible for providing recommendations regarding position and employee actions, determining class compensation, and participating in salary surveys. This class differs from that of Senior Compensation Consultant in that an incumbent of the latter serves at the senior level and oversees enterprise-wide compensation projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Partners with agencies in the development and implementation of long-term compensation planning. Consults with business partners to design tailored compensation strategies aligned with an agency's compensation objectives.
  2. Provides recommendations regarding employee salary adjustments, position actions, and other compensation actions submitted to ensure alignment with the State's compensation philosophy. Analyzes data to determine appropriate pay structure, salary grade, and FLSA status for job classifications.
  3. Contributes to compensation projects and process improvement initiatives. May assist in training less experienced Compensation Consultants on established processes.
  4. Participates in compensation surveys, conducts research and analysis on market competitiveness, pay equity, and compensation trends. Benchmarks new and existing roles against survey data to determine competitive compensation.
  5. Supports and provides resources for agency job analyses. Consults with agencies to determine responsibilities, qualifications, and competencies for job classifications.
  6. Reviews DOHR policies and procedures and makes recommendations for improvements that will positively impact operational efficiency and quality of service.

TN Driver Standards
