Moog Space and Defenseprovides world-class avionics for satellites and other spacecraft including custom digital, analog and power electronics. Typical project development scope includes computer architecture definition, printed circuit board design & development, circuitware (FPGA) architecture and design, component specification & procurement, in-house manufacturing, unit/environmental testing, and product requirement verification.

We are seeking to hire a proven engineering leader who will manage and supervise senior technical leads / designers to ensure quality avionics are delivered on time and on budget.The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of embedded computing and/or radiation-hardened electronics design, system requirements development, and technical project management. Facilitative leadership and coordination of functional engineering disciplines will enable the successful candidate to ensure product development activities follow Moog's phase-gate development process and meet rigorous quality standards. This department leader's team is responsible for design and delivery of Moog Space Avionics products.

As the Project Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Drive product development of novel spacecraft avionics ensuring development projects are staffed and executed on budget and on schedule.
  • Manage all aspects of the lead systems engineering team process and drive continuous improvement of existing products and processes.
  • Lead root cause analyses, champion corrective actions, and drive implementation of lessons learned for system engineering processes.
  • Present concepts, data, and recommendations to senior management and customers to generate solution buy-in. Provide technical oversight / review of product designs to ensure requirements are successfully verified.
  • Participate in business unit strategic planning related to new projects and products. Review product proposals for technical accuracy and budget/schedule scope. Develop standard work and work package / WBS descriptions for new products and proposals.
  • Manage and lead junior and senior project engineers in the execution of multiple simultaneous custom development projects to meet high demand schedules, cost targets, and complex technical requirements.
  • Lead systems engineering team to drive creative solutions to difficult programmatic and technical challenges. Plan / implement technical mitigations and communicate issues to senior management when resolutions cannot be implemented at department level.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for the Lead Systems Engineering team to assure efficiency and effectiveness of team members. Interview, hire, appraise, mentor, train, and develop team members including electrical/aerospace system engineers, project engineers, and product/avionics engineers.

To be considered for the Project Engineering Manager role, here is what you must bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science (Master of Science preferred) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in a high-reliability electronics design role.
    • Prefer: 5+ years of experience designing spacecraft / radiation hardened electronics.
    • Prefer: 5+ years of experience in technical project management.
    • Prefer: 3+ years of experience directly supervising engineering professionals.
  • Proven track record of directing suppliers and negotiating with customers to manage scope.
  • Ability to travel to customers and suppliers to resolve technical and programmatic issues.

Salary Range Transparency:

Phoenix, AZ $165,000.00-$200,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
