Machinist - Contract

Job Title: Contract Machinist
Pay Rate: $35 - $50 per hour
Job Type: Contract (11 months)
Location: Devens, MA (ONSITE)
Schedule: 7:00AM - 3:30PM (M-F)

Job Summary:
Join the power movement as a Contract Machinist supporting precision manufacturing through CNC machining and part modification. This role focuses on programming, setup, and operation of a variety of machine shop equipment while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and brings strong technical expertise and attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities:
* Program, set up, and operate multiple CNC machines with minimal supervision.
* Simultaneously operate more than one CNC machine as production demands require.
* Machine or modify parts using verbal instructions, drawings, and solid models.
* Operate standard machine shop equipment including 3-axis machining centers, waterjet, Trak mill and lathe, surface grinder, and related tools.
* Read and adhere to all verbal and written work instructions and processes.
* Inspect parts using visual and precision measurement tools such as microscopes, vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and profilometers.
* Inspect cutting tools, make offsets, and replace tooling as needed.
* Perform daily preventative maintenance on machining equipment.
* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace using 5S principles.
* Collaborate and communicate professionally with coworkers and leadership.
* Support production schedules, including flexibility for overtime or adjusted start times as needed.

Required Qualifications:
* Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the CNC machining trade.
* Formal trades training, apprenticeship program, or trade school certification/degree.
* Strong understanding of CNC programming concepts and basic G-code.
* Experience programming with CAD software.
* Proficient computer skills.
* High attention to detail with a strong work ethic.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
* Strong communication skills and ability to handle sensitive or confidential information.
* Basic knowledge of welding, torches, plasma cutting, and sheet metal fabrication.
* Trained in effective time management.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points):
* Full proficiency with Mastercam.
* Experience with Haas machining centers.
* 4-axis and 5-axis machining experience.
* Waterjet machining experience.
* EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) experience.
* Understanding of tolerance changes due to atmospheric temperature variations (CTE).
* Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
* Comfortable performing tasks such as standing, sitting, and typing for extended periods.
* Commitment to safety in environments that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics.
* Willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, on-call shifts, or travel as required.
