Job Summary The Museum Assistant will assist in any aspect of museum operations as required such as prepare/maintain fire collections and exhibits, perform research, and educate the public about the collection. They research, plan, and implement new exhibits for the museum. May establish guides for visitors. Essential Functions
- Assists with processing collections, including registering, accessioning, cataloging, packing, unpacking, maintaining inventory, and documentation.
- Assists in the setup and assembly of storage areas for collection according to curatorial standards; cleans the collection and storage area as needed.
- Assists in the maintenance of the museum collection database through data entry and editing.
- Creates video recordings of Subject Matter Experts for electronic display to enhance collection.
- Prepares various reports regarding collection activities and the condition of objects as requested.
- Conducts research in the identification and interpretation of museum collections.
- Responds to inquiries regarding collection from museum visitors; acts as museum receptionist.
- Performs specific tasks that are components of exhibit planning, installation, and maintenance; prepares graphics, illustrations, labels, and artifact mounts and construction of exhibit cases.
- Assists in organization of and implementation of public programs such as workshops, education programs and special events; may assist in preparation of educational materials, promotional materials and mailing lists.
- Organizes special viewing of collection; arranges showings and selects exhibits based on audience; prepares displays.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.

- Proven superior writing skills, including the ability to write concise, creative, and effective materials to support and describe artifacts
- Knowledge of documentation practices and procedures pertaining to museum objects, storage, and preparation of exhibits.
- Skill in verbal and written communication and following instructions.
- Skill in the documentation of museum objects, storage, and exhibit preparations.
- Knowledge of graphic design.
- Demonstrated proficiency using content design and development tools and language such as MS Office Suite, web page editors, database systems, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Proficiency working in Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel[KL4] , PowerPoint
Preferred:
- Graduate credential in Art, history, archeology, museum studies, or a related field
- Bachelor's degree in Art, history, archeology, museum studies, or a related field
