Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead AV Technician to oversee the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of professional audio-visual systems for large-scale commercial projects. This role requires expertise in leading field teams, ensuring quality control, and delivering fully integrated solutions utilizing platforms such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, and AMX. Candidates with an Avixa CTS certification are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead installation teams on commercial AV projects, ensuring work is completed on schedule and to industry standards.
- Install and configure Audio/Video Control Systems (Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, AMX) along with displays, projectors, DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, and sound masking systems.
- Direct equipment rack builds, including system wiring, labeling, and cable management.
- Perform and oversee the installation and termination of low voltage cabling (CAT5e, CAT6, 18/2, coax, RG6, HD-SDI, SDI, XLR, RCA).
- Manage cable pathways (J-hooks, D-rings, ladder racks) and ensure clean, professional routing of all AV cabling.
- Commission AV systems including programming, DSP tuning, and system testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in audio, video, and control systems.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and project documentation.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior technicians and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Communicate project updates clearly with project managers, engineers, and clients.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or technical degree preferred.
- Minimum 3+ years of commercial AV installation experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role.
- Proficiency with AV platforms: Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, and AMX.
- Avixa CTS certification required (CTS-I or CTS-D a strong plus).
- OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of signal flow, AV networking, and integrated control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Physical ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Must provide personal basic hand tools (screwdrivers, tape measure, snips, pliers, punch-down tools, crimpers, etc.).
