This position is based in our Reading, PA office and is not a remote opportunity.

The Senior Protection and Controls Engineer will provide engineering expertise and technical leadership for electrical protection and control activities in support of substation and transmission projects for Worley and its customers. This role supports new substations and switchyards, as well as modifications, additions, and upgrades to existing facilities, as part of the Power Networks team.

Responsibilities

  • Execute complex protection and control engineering assignments for both greenfield and brownfield Power Networks projects.
  • Develop engineering drawings, calculations, technical documents, and other project deliverables as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and coordinate the work of engineers and designers to support successful project delivery.
  • Perform work in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes and standards, schedule requirements, and budget constraints.
  • Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively with project team members and external clients.
  • Conduct independent technical reviews, audits, and quality checks of engineering work.
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition, cost estimates, and input to client presentations.
  • Serve as a technical or discipline lead on assigned projects, responsible for the quality and completeness of deliverables.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment while maintaining the ability to work independently as required.
  • Interface with other disciplines, project management, and external stakeholders to support integrated project execution.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to perform site walkdowns and field assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with drawing standards, quality assurance requirements, and established document management procedures.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience

  • Experience providing technical direction or supervision to engineers and designers.

  • Experience developing project cost estimates and contributing to proposal documentation.

  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, regulatory requirements, manufacturing standards, and industry best practices.

  • Proficiency with standard business and engineering software (e.g., MS Office and discipline-specific tools).

  • Ability to manage work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to support collaboration with engineers, designers, project teams, and clients.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

  • Extensive experience in protection and control engineering for substations and switchyards, including high-voltage facilities (500 kV and above).

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
