Overview

Candidate will serve as the Radiation Safety Officer - Training reporting to the D320 Radiation Protection Manager (RPM). In conjunction with the RSO and Program Lead, will be responsible for the administration of the radiation protection training program to ensure compliance to United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) licensing requirements as they relate to Industrial Radiography Safety and By-Product Material Safeguards such that Electric Boat maintains its license to perform industrial radiography on nuclear submarine product and materials.

The successful candidate will supervise and direct the day to day operations of Assistant Radiation Safety Officers assigned to training:

    Ensure that all aspects of the Electric Boat Radiation Safety training program are adhered to
  • Maintain metrics, issue formal reports and program reviews to senior management
  • Perform ATA administration
  • Personnel scheduling
  • ENGAGE performance evaluations and goals
  • LMS & training management
  • Work scheduling


Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience in Radiation Safety and Radiological Controls
  • 3+ years of experience in Industrial Radiation Safety controls
  • Completion of training and education related to radiation protection principles, characteristics of ionizing radiation, units of radiation dose and quantities, radiation detection instrumentation and biological hazards of exposure to radiation
  • Experience with performing radiation surveys, leak tests, establishment and control of radiation boundaries
  • Ability to obtain an ASNT (American Society for Non-Destructive Test) IRRSP (Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel) certification or equivalent
  • Must have the ability to medically obtain and maintain a personnel dosimeter (TLD)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret level security clearance through the department of defense
  • Occasional travel may be required

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Radiation Safety Instructor
  • DOT HAZ-MAT training and qualification to ship, receive, and transport Class 7 Radioactive Materials
  • Inspection and Maintenance training to inspection and preform maintenance on industrial radiography equipment
  • Calibration training to perform calibration on industrial radiography support equipment
  • Formal training in the establishment and maintenance of a radiation protection program
  • Previous experience and participation in regulatory inspections is a plus.


Skills

A detailed understanding of applicable state and federal regulations is highly desired for this position.
