Position Announcement

Utah Tech University seeks an experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Dean for the College of Health Sciences (CoHS). The Dean of the College of Health Sciences provides leadership and supervision to program coordinators, directors, and chairs, as well as oversight of programs and departments within the College. This position is responsible for developing programs that meet the needs of students and the community. Collaborates with other faculty to develop programs that meet students' needs. Ensures that the College of Health Sciences is operating in accordance with federal, state, and university policy.

Utah Tech University seeks an experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The Dean provides strategic direction and administrative oversight for all departments, programs, and personnel within the College, working closely with coordinators, directors, and chairs to support high-quality academic offerings that meet the needs of students and the regional community. This position is responsible for guiding program development, strengthening academic quality, and ensuring that all operations align with federal, state, and university policies.

The Dean serves as a key member of UT's academic leadership team and plays an essential role in advancing the health sciences within a polytechnic mission. This includes strategic planning, academic and personnel oversight, resource management, enrollment strategy, fundraising, and fostering innovation across clinical, laboratory, and applied learning environments. The Dean will also steward the College's diverse academic programs, facilities, faculty and staff contributions, and partnerships with regional healthcare organizations to strengthen student learning and professional preparation.

The College of Health Sciences is housed in state-of-the-art facilities located near major regional healthcare partners, providing an exceptional environment for applied and interdisciplinary learning. Enrolling approximately 2,500 students, the College includes multiple academic departments and offers a broad range of certificates, associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, including several delivered fully online.

The Dean will guide the ongoing development of the College's academic programs, clinical learning opportunities, and external collaborations. Supported by dedicated faculty and staff and strong relationships with healthcare and community organizations, the College operates a variety of instructional and clinical facilities that enhance student education and professional preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all academic departments, programs, and operations within the college.
  • Support and create a college vision and implement a strategic planning process through a transparent decision-making culture.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff, including hiring, tenure and promotion, retention reviews, post-tenure reviews, and annual evaluations.
  • Cultivate interdisciplinary collaborations and community partnerships that advance student learning and promote overall college growth and development.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources in alignment with institutional goals.
  • Provide leadership in academic personnel matters, including a commitment to recruiting and successfully supporting all members of our faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Develop new programs, support existing programs, and manage curriculum, including program assessment and program accreditation.
  • Design and implement enrollment strategies that support sustainable growth across all college disciplines.
  • Encourage and promote instructional and organizational innovation and foster a creative spirit within the college.
  • Facilitate information flow and oversight of Health Sciences programs to ensure the quality of the instructional program and to review proposed curricular changes.
  • Ensure progress towards and maintenance of fourteen (14) different professional accreditations.
  • Explore and develop interdisciplinary programs with other deans or administrators and recommend such programs to the administration.
  • Partner with UT Development staff to increase fundraising activity for the College of Health Sciences.
  • Engage effectively with University leadership and advisory boards in health sciences.
  • Represent the institution on state, regional, and national assignments where appropriate.
  • Participates in University committees, as assigned, and performs other duties as needed.
  • Support the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in other areas as needed.

Qualifications

  • Earned a doctorate or terminal degree in a discipline eligible for tenure within one of the College of Health Sciences' academic departments.

  • Currently holds the rank of associate or full professor.

  • Academic administrative experience, preferably including line authority over university faculty.

  • Experience in developing an organizational vision in collaboration with a college's faculty and chairs, other university administrators, and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to advocate effectively both inside and outside the university.

  • Leadership that is inclusive, participative, and collaborative, and the ability to listen and communicate effectively to build consensus across a diverse range of constituencies.

  • Record of scholarship and commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service commensurate with the appointment to the rank of full professor.

  • Commitment to recruitment and retention of a strong and diverse faculty and student body.

  • Commitment to leading the College in strategic planning, program assessment, and program and institutional accreditation efforts.

  • Ability to address the differences and needs of both clinical and non-clinical pedagogy.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt executive staff position. Annual salary of $160,000+ depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of July 2026.
