Description

Patrols buildings and monitors surveillance and alarm equipment; controls access to buildings and restricted areas and enforces parking regulations; assists in radio dispatching, key control, collects and delivers receipts and deposits and provides escorts as needed.

**Shift will be identified at time of interview.


Examples of Duties

Conduct Vehicle and Foot Patrols 95%
Patrol University owned and leased buildings/property for suspicious activity and asset protection. Investigate suspicious persons and activities on or near campus. Respond to disruptive patients and attempt to resolve the issue. Contact local law enforcement to assist when SIU SOM police are not available. Assists police with detaining individuals when necessary.
Respond and monitor patients who are subject to hospital involuntary admissions. Stand by with ambulance personnel when preparing involuntary admission patients for transport to the hospital.
Enforce campus parking regulations. Address parking violations by writing warnings and citations. Issue annual and temporary parking permits. Collect annual parking permit fees and citation fines, and enter data into the computer system. Direct traffic and designate reserved parking areas during special events.
Monitor the campus surveillance cameras. Review camera footage. Share recorded footage and still photographs of suspicious activities and persons with local law enforcement and Memorial Medical Center Security.
Perform desk officer duties to include operating office telephones, base station radio, mobile radios, security system computers and office computer. Dispatch police officers, security guards, safety officers and maintenance staff to calls for service. Maintain radio contact with Sangamon County 911 dispatch. Monitor the emergency weather radio. Notify University employees, staff, and students of emergency situations by sending campus safety alerts.
Evacuate all personnel from buildings during a fire alarm or fire drill. Assist the fire department and maintenance staff in attempting to locate the source of a fire alarm. Conduct monthly fire extinguisher checks to ensure they are charged and ready for use.
Upon request, escort University employees, staff, and students after hours to their vehicle and other buildings. Provide transportation to the University campus from the airport and Amtrak station.
Admit qualified persons to building and restricted areas. Issue keys and identification badges to SIU SOM employees, visitors, and contractors. Monitor buildings to prevent unauthorized access. Lock and unlocks doors as required.
Write field reports, complete shift activity logs, hot work permits, and send and read email.
Collect money, checks and receipts from SIU HealthCare clinics and deliver to the University Bursar. Transport money/checks securely and make bank deposits.
Complete all University mandated training as required.

Qualifications

Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid/current Illinois driver's license.
3. No record of conviction of a felony, or of a crime involving moral turpitude.

3. Ability to enforce security rules and regulations.
4. Ability to read basic operational procedures and prepare operational reports.

7. Ability to hear and see details at close range and at a distance; normal vision and hearing (corrected).
8. Ability to maintain an awareness of the environment for suspicious or criminal behavior or activity;

Condition of Employment

Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
