Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Simulation Director and Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor provides strategic and operational leadership for all simulation and clinical skills learning activities within the Nursing Department at the University of the Pacific. This is an 11-month, full-time, non-tenure track position, with responsibilities divided between simulation (50%) and teaching (50%). The Simulation Director and Assistant/Associate Clinical ensures that simulation-based education aligns with the Department's mission to prepare competent, compassionate, and practice-ready nurses.
In this role, the Simulation Director and Assistant/Associate Clinical oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of simulation experiences that promote clinical reasoning, teamwork, and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. The Simulation Director and Assistant/Associate Clinical collaborates with faculty and works under the guidance of the Department Chair, contributing to the teaching and mentoring of students in adult health (medical-surgical) and foundational nursing courses. This position requires expertise in simulation pedagogy, nursing education, and program management.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based learning experiences aligned with course and program outcomes, accreditation standards, and the Next Generation NCLEX-RN framework.
  • Provide hands-on instruction and facilitation in simulation and clinical skills laboratories, and co-facilitate classroom and clinical learning in adult health and foundational nursing courses. Design evidence-based simulation scenarios and debriefing sessions that foster critical thinking, clinical judgment, and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Oversee simulation operations, including the maintenance, scheduling, and safe use of simulation labs, skills labs, and related equipment.
  • Manage inventory, procurement, and vendor relationships for simulation and skills lab resources, ensuring equipment readiness and technology optimization.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate simulation pedagogy across the curriculum and mentor colleagues in effective simulation design, facilitation, and debriefing practices.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and evaluation systems to ensure quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and alignment with accreditation standards (CCNE and BRN).
  • Participate in curriculum development, academic advising, and student recruitment efforts in collaboration with departmental leadership.
  • Engage in scholarship, service, and professional development consistent with faculty expectations and the mission of the University and Nursing Department.
  • Support strategic initiatives that enhance the simulation program's growth, innovation, and contribution to the Department's educational excellence.

University of the Pacific recognizes that diversity, equity, and inclusion is foundational to the success of our valued students and employees. We prioritize policy and decision-making that demonstrates awareness of, and responsiveness to, the ways socio-cultural forces related to race, gender, ability, sexuality, socio-economic status, etc. impede or propel students, faculty, and staff.
