POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the overall administration of projects within the Bioanalytical Laboratory (BAL), including both internal projects such as equipment, system and assay/panel validation and external (customer) qualification, validation and sample testing projects. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and maintaining project management and daily scheduling processes and methodologies/tools to optimize staff efficiency and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to quality standards and meet customer expectations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Works with Bioanalytical Principal Investigators (BPIs), BAL Client Services staff, and additional support staff as needed to initiate project plans and schedules for new projects, including appropriate resource allocations.

* Provides updates on project and task status to the project BPI, BAL project management team, and BAL senior management team.

* Tracks and reports key project milestones and deliverables; adjusting project plans, schedules and resources utilizing approved change management practices to meet the requirements and needs of the customer through project completion and closeout.

- Identifies project issues and proactively implements plans to resolve such issues and mitigate project impact

- Performs quality reviews of project deliverables for compliance to established practices and standards

* Establishes and communicates daily schedule for staff performing bench testing and testing support activities such as initial data analysis, peer review of data, reagent inventory management and lab maintenance.

- Updates daily schedule on an ongoing basis to address changes in resource and material availability.

* Coordinates and escalates communication with all appropriate areas of the BAL to mitigate the impact of changes to resources and risk.

* Leads BPIs, BAL Client Services staff, BAL senior management team and support staff in the use of project management and scheduling methods, standards and tools; implementing processes and methodologies to achieve successful projects.

* Works with BAL senior management team to identify areas of process improvement with aim of more effectively utilizing resources to consistently deliver projects on time.

* Adheres to principles of Good Laboratory Practice/Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GLP/GCLP) applicable to regulated bioanalysis projects.

* Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Science or related field; Master's degree preferred.

* Five years of experience directly handling administrative management of projects in a clinical research organization (CRO) or other regulated bioanalytical laboratory environment.

* Project management certification or completion of a recognized project management curriculum or equivalent work experience required.

* Training in and experience with GLP and/or GCLP is required.

* Experience managing projects and scheduling resources in a high complexity/high-throughput/fast-paced lab is required.

* Two years of supervisory/mentoring/management experience is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Strong analytical background.

* Intermediate level knowledge of GLP/GCLP principles as they apply to bioanalytical laboratories.

* Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.

* Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.

o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of project data.

* Effective leadership skills with demonstrated ability to establish and communicate accountabilities and expectations.

* Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with enterprise-level project management/scheduling tools strongly preferred; MS Project experience desired.

* Ability to work with inter-departmental teams and with external stakeholders; interacting with a high level of patience, tact, and diplomacy, and maintaining composure under pressure.

* Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time-sensitive deadlines and deliverables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* The position is performed in a traditional office setting.

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $101,400 to $154,700. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
