Water Resources & Utilities Designer

We are looking to hire a Water Resources & Utilities Designer with experience or interest in hydrology, hydraulics, and water, wastewater, and stormwater utility infrastructure design. Projects will include standalone water resources assignments such as drainage studies, watershed modeling, floodplain mapping, and conceptual alternatives analysis, as well as municipal water and sewer infrastructure projects involving collection, conveyance, and distribution systems.

Additional projects will integrate water resources and utility design with broader civil and transportation improvements, including flood mitigation, stormwater master planning, waterway restoration, water quality BMPs, stormwater facilities, and water and wastewater utility improvements associated with roadway and site development projects across the company.


The Impact You Will Have

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis for open channels, dams, levees, floodplains, and closed conduit systems
  • Assist with the planning and design of storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water distribution systems, including pipes, manholes, structures, and appurtenances
  • Design components of open channels, culverts, bridges, storm sewer systems, and water and wastewater utility infrastructure
  • Support utility coordination and design for transportation and site development projects, including conflict resolution and relocation concepts
  • Conduct scour analysis, streambank stabilization, and flood inundation mapping
  • Evaluate stormwater, water, and wastewater-related design elements
  • Assist in the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Assist with plan production related to drainage design, stormwater management, detention facilities, water and sewer utilities, and related infrastructure
  • Contribute to project goals and milestones while monitoring progress, budgets, and schedules
  • Ensure the development of high-quality engineering documents in accordance with internal quality control procedures
  • Assemble clear project communications, including meeting minutes and technical documentation
  • Maintain responsibility for assigned design calculations and coordinate independent quality control reviews
  • Provide support to other civil design disciplines as needed


What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline required
  • Experience or strong interest in water resources engineering and/or municipal water and wastewater utility design
  • Experience or interest in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and design related to floodplains, detention, storm sewer systems, water distribution systems, and sanitary sewer collection systems
  • Intern Engineer (IE) status with the ability and interest in obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Familiarity with modeling and design software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, EPA-SWMM/PC-SWMM, HY-8, StormCAD, WaterCAD, SewerCAD, CivilStorm, FLO-2D, WMS, SMS/SRH-2D, or similar tools is a plus
  • Experience with GIS applications (ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap or ESRI products) desired
  • Experience with plan production software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads
  • Knowledge of local and state agency design criteria for drainage, stormwater, water, and wastewater utilities is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational skills and an understanding of project budgets and schedules
  • Interest in multidisciplinary civil infrastructure projects; transportation or site design experience is a plus
