Description
The Commercial Credit Executive is responsible for loan approvals on commercial purpose loans, though the incumbent's responsibilities-and those of the group reporting to the incumbent-may be focused on specific areas within commercial lending. Loan authority would be commensurate with experience and expertise. From time to time, this position may need to provide guidance on credits that are either classified/criticized and/or have been recently downgraded where a clear plan of action is now needed. This position will interact closely with the production side of the Bank with its ultimate goal to provide timely responses on complete loan request packages and approvals that are consistent with the corporate credit culture.

Position Accountabilities



  • Manages and coordinates approval workflow for a group of Senior Credit Officers.
  • Signature loan approvals on commercial relationships as approved and recommended by the assigned Senior Credit Officers.
  • Makes recommendations on credits that require the approval of the Chief Credit Officer.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring, and prepares all written performance evaluations, for the assigned Senior Credit Officers.
  • Collaborates with assigned Senior Credit Officer to determine appropriate risk assessment of commercial loan requests including an appropriate level of analysis of borrower's business, management, industry and financial condition and operations.
  • Provides direction and partners with the commercial groups on how to most effectively and efficiently leverage the credit process so that both credit quality and loan growth objectives are met.
  • Provides expertise and leadership in larger more complex credit requests and/or relationships, including arranging and leading discussions among senior bank executives on such requests.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Credit Officer and the Senior Credit Risk Officer in developing, enhancing, drafting or revising credit policies, product guidelines and procedures; management and board reporting, credit training; and various credit risk management/administration projects.
  • Makes joint calls with relationship managers as needed and as time permits.
  • Provides guidance/mentoring to both credit support personnel, relationship managers and regional presidents on risk management issues as requested or otherwise deemed necessary or appropriate.
  • Discusses credits with Internal Loan Review and/or Bank Examiners as required.
  • Works with commercial relationship managers and line management to ensure proper servicing of the commercial loan portfolio.
  • Works with commercial relationship managers and line management to ensure that commercial loan portfolio quality goals are met.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field.
  • Twenty or more years' experience in commercial banking and/or a credit administration position with signature loan approval responsibilities.

  • Ability to work accurately with detailed information.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost of discretion.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
  • Results oriented, decisive and willingness to be firm when needed.
  • PC proficiency with a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to effectively analyze data in order to accurately assess risk from a cash flow, collateral, industry, local market conditions and management perspective in order to ensure appropriate credit and loan structuring decisions are made in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership and skills in determining and recommending appropriate solutions on problem credits.
  • Maintains current operating knowledge of all job-relevant legal and regulatory requirements through the successful completion of compliance and regulatory training and attendance at all mandatory regulatory compliance activities.



Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
