Position description

The Hsiung Lab in the Institute for Human Genetics at UCSF (www.hsiunglab.org) is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual who has prior experience/skills at the bench in a molecular biology laboratory setting. This is a unique opportunity most suitable for a soon-to-graduate senior to gain full-time experience (minimum 2-year commitment) in studies in developing and/or applying cutting-edge CRISPR synthetic biology and functional genomics approaches to topics with therapeutic relevance. Some questions/challenges we are interested in include: 1. How do we engineer cells to turn genes on or off? 2. How do we explore numerous combinations of genetic perturbations in a scalable way? 3. How do we engineer immune recognition of cancer or tissue response to injury? Interest in working with mice is preferred. Ability to perform computational analysis is a plus but not required. This is a full-time position; please do not inquire about part-time opportunities.

Possible projects include:

  1. Discovering perturbations to cancer cells to elicit systemic anti-tumor immunity using novel CRISPR screening approaches in mouse models
  2. Applying high-throughput approaches to study tissue injury responses, such as regeneration or fibrosis, including in new models of cultured mouse or human tissues and in mouse models.
  3. Developing new CRISPR tools to manipulate transcriptional control for discovery science and therapeutics

The expectation is a highly independent and driven individual with the ability to contribute to projects creatively, as well as routine tasks for laboratory upkeep and inventory maintenance. Interested individuals will receive relevant career mentorship, including MD and/or PhD career paths.

Required qualifications:

* Must have (or in process of obtaining) a bachelor's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related fields.

* Prior experience in molecular biology laboratory in research setting required.

Preferred qualifications:

* Interest in working with mice preferred.

* Basic skills in computational data analysis preferred, but not required.

Applicants must possess the basic required qualifications for the position by the time of hire.

Important: Please apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF05920. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
