We are seeking a Project Architect with strong technical expertise and a passion for civic architecture to support the delivery of public-sector projects across California. This role is responsible for leading the technical development and documentation of projects, coordinating consultant teams, and ensuring design intent is translated into high-quality, code-compliant construction documents. The Project Architect works closely with Project Managers, Designers, and Principals to deliver civic projects that serve communities with clarity, durability, and design excellence.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Documentation

    Lead the technical development of projects through Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration.
  • Translate design intent into clear, accurate, and buildable documentation.
  • Oversee production of drawing sets, specifications, and BIM models in alignment with Dewberry's standards.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and code compliance.

Code & Regulatory Coordination

  • Lead code research and analysis, including CBC, ADA, and accessibility requirements.
  • Coordinate with public agencies and authorities having jurisdiction, including DSA, OSFM, and local building departments as applicable.
  • Prepare and respond to plan check comments and agency reviews.

Consultant Coordination

  • Coordinate structural, civil, MEP, landscape, and specialty consultants.
  • Integrate consultant documentation into the architectural set.
  • Review consultant deliverables for quality, consistency, and coordination.

Project Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Project Managers to support schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
  • Collaborate with Designers to maintain design quality and civic identity throughout documentation.
  • Support Construction Administration activities including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and punch lists.

Mentorship & Team Support

  • Support and mentor junior staff in technical skills, documentation standards, and professional practice.
  • Promote best practices in BIM, Revit workflows, and digital coordination.


Required Skills & Required Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • Licensed Architect in California or actively pursuing licensure
  • 6+ years of professional experience with increasing technical responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience delivering civic or public-sector projects
  • Strong knowledge of California Building Code, ADA, and public-sector standards
  • Proficiency in Revit and BIM-based documentation workflows
  • Excellent organizational, coordination, and communication skills

The projected range for this position is $85,000-$125,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.

Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
