POSITION SPECIFICS

Summer 2026 employment - Office Physical Plant, Penn State University

The Office of Physical Plant is currently hiring qualified skilled trades individuals for summer employment beginning May, 2026, through September, 2026. These positions require 40 hours of work per week (M-F with a start time of 6:00 A.M.) and are available in trades such as Electrical, Refrigeration/Plumbing, and Heating & Ventilation.

PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for employment, please submit a cover letter stating your area of interest in addition to your resume.

Electrical Trade Duties:

  • Assist with the installation of the following: new power and lighting circuits, LED lamp conversions, door security hardware, minor fire alarm upgrades, and other electrical and electronic tasks.
  • Assist with general maintenance and troubleshooting on electrical and electronic circuits.
  • Assist other technicians with dispatch calls and urgent electrical repairs
  • Report extensive repairs needed to the supervisor

Refrigeration/Plumbing Duties:

  • Assist with preventative maintenance of commercial refrigeration and cooling systems/equipment.
  • Assist other technicians with dispatch calls for cooling systems
  • Assist with the service and repair of, but not limited to, heat pumps, compressors, ice machines, laboratory equipment, condensers, evaporators, and associated controls.
  • Report extensive repairs needed to the supervisor

Heating & Ventilation Duties:

  • Assist with general maintenance and repairs to RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, etc.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance of heating and ventilation systems
  • Assist other technicians with building automation systems (BAS)
  • Report extensive repairs needed to the supervisor
  • Assist other technicians with HVAC needs

The starting rate for this job is $18.00
