Position Title: UI/UX and 508, Associate

Clearance: Public Trust

Job Overview: LCG is seeking a UI/UX and Section 508, Associate will support Client's ITAC by designing, validating, and governing user interface and user experience solutions for enterprise web and application systems across the ITAC portfolio. This role is responsible for producing ITAC-compliant UI/UX artifacts, leading usability and accessibility validation efforts, and ensuring all user interfaces meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.x accessibility standards prior to development and release. The associate will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, QA, and accessibility SMEs to ensure that user-centered design principles, accessibility compliance, and ITAC UI/UX standards are consistently applied throughout the software development lifecycle, including modernization initiatives and new application development.

Key Responsibilities

UI/UX Design & Standards Compliance



  • Design user interfaces and user experiences aligned with ITAC UI/UX standards, enterprise design patterns, and NIH branding guidelines.
  • Produce wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to support requirements elaboration and design validation prior to development.
  • Ensure all UI artifacts are reviewed, validated, and formally approved through ITAC UI/UX review processes before build activities begin.


Usability & Human-Centered Design



  • Lead UX reviews, walkthroughs, and stakeholder feedback sessions to validate usability, workflow efficiency, and user satisfaction.
  • Conduct usability validation and heuristic evaluations, identifying design risks, usability gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support human-centered design practices as part of ITAC's Agile and modernization initiatives.


Section 508 & Accessibility Compliance



  • Ensure full Section 508 and WCAG 2.x compliance across all user interfaces and application components.
  • Execute and support accessibility testing using automated and manual methods, including keyboard navigation, screen reader validation, color contrast analysis, and form validation.
  • Generate and maintain 508 compliance evidence, including HHS 508 Checklists, test results, screen captures, and supporting artifacts required for annual and release-specific reporting.
  • Collaborate with ITAC 508 Compliance SMEs to support VPAT (WCAG 2.x) and Section 508 Annual Report deliverables.


Design Artifacts & Documentation



  • Deliver design specifications, style guides, component recommendations, and UI standards documentation to support consistent implementation.
  • Support information architecture and content design, ensuring logical navigation, content hierarchy, and accessibility-compliant structures.
  • Store and maintain all UI/UX and accessibility artifacts in ITAC SharePoint repositories in accordance with documentation standards.


Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Collaborate closely with developers and QA teams to support accurate UI implementation and validation during development and testing.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, providing UX and accessibility input.
  • Support implementation QA, validating that developed interfaces match approved designs and accessibility requirements.


Requirement

NIH Experience preferred.

Required Technical Skills



  • UI/UX Design Tools: Balsamiq (wireframing and mockups)
  • Accessibility Tooling: Automated and manual accessibility testing tools (e.g., color contrast analyzers, screen readers, accessibility inspection tools)
  • Documentation & Collaboration: SharePoint for design artifact storage and collaboration
  • SDLC Integration: Familiarity with Agile/SAFe workflows and Jira-based backlog tracking


Experience



  • 5-8 years of professional experience in UI/UX design for enterprise web or application systems.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting Section 508 and WCAG accessibility compliance in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience producing wireframes, prototypes, design specifications, and accessibility evidence.
  • Prior experience supporting federal, healthcare, or highly regulated environments is strongly preferred.


Education: Bachelor's degree preferred in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

Certification:



  • IAAP Accessibility Certifications, such as:
  • CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies)
  • WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist)


Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $60,000 to $90,000 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
