The Alliance Lab Senior Manager provides leadership and oversight of Testing and Transfusions Support Services provided by the Fred Hutch Alliance Lab. They ensure high quality performance, cost effective resource utilization, implementation of standardized, reliable and lean processes plus continuous improvement.
- Collaborates with senior leaders, lab medical director(s), Lab Quality, and lab leadership to complete initiatives, complex troubleshooting, and systems upgrades/updates in a timely manager and within the appropriate regulatory compliance expectations.
- Supports Testing Managers and Technical and Compliance Manager responsible for daily operations and ongoing regulatory compliance in Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, and Urinalysis.
This role works at the Fred Hutch South Lake Union campus, 825 Eastlake Ave E, Seattle, WA. Occasional travel, which may be increased during projects, etc., is required to the Fred Hutch Community Sites with onsite Alliance Labs:

Responsibilities
- Oversee operational management of Transfusion Support Services and Testing (chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, tumor markers).
- Responsible for technical performance oversight.
- Oversee the laboratory quality improvement/quality assurance program in coordination with the Lab Quality team.
- Implement and ensure compliance with safety rules and requirements.
- Develop operating and capital budgets, monitor expenses and revenue, and investigate and report budget variances.
- Represent the Alliance Lab at meetings with other health care personnel at Fred Hutch or elsewhere in the medical system. Attend assigned committee meetings. Serve as a liaison between the lab and other teams in Fred Hutch, University of Washington, and outside the organization. Communicate information, both technical and administrative, to the appropriate faculty, directors, and staff. Contribute to projects across departments and partner organizations.
- Develop and monitor comprehensive productivity metrics, including performing continuous and thorough analysis to achieve effective utilization of available resources.
- Support the development and maintenance of adaptable laboratory systems to meet evolving clinical research needs. Collaborate on the strategic planning and implementation of infrastructure, workflows, and financial models that facilitate clinical research activities within the laboratory. Assist Principal Investigators and research administration teams in aligning scientific goals with operational capabilities, fostering coordination and project success.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or Bachelor's degree equivalency as defined by 42CFR793.1449(c)(5)(i)(B). Must meet the CLIA education requirements for a high complexity general supervisor, technical consultant, and technical supervisor in hematology and/or chemistry.
- At least 4 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing for the applicable specialty (2 years for employees with master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution).
- Must meet the CLIA training requirements for a high complexity general supervisor, technical consultant, and technical supervisor in hematology and/or chemistry.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist or equivalent certification with certified maintenance (as required by individual certification) of continuing education through ASCP, AMT, AAB, ABHI or equivalent agency required.
- Knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations
- Demonstrated direct leadership of lab projects (new test validation, process improvement, employee engagement, etc.)
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Demonstrated clinical judgment in working with physicians and other health professionals
- Experience with laboratory information systems
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role
Preferred:
- Master's degree in lab science, healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred.
- CAP Inspection Team Member Certification preferred.
- Budget preparation and monitoring preferred
- Certified CAP inspector preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory billing, including CPT codes and billing compliance preferred
- Familiarity with clinical research processes and their application in clinical laboratory settings preferred
The annual base salary range for this position is from $139,984.00 to $221,249.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
