What to Expect

The powertrain architecture and modeling team develops a parametric vehicle model that is utilized for vehicle architecture design, performance evaluation, and decision making.

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, utilization, and validation of component and system models in a generalized capacity, and battery and cell modeling in a specialized capacity. You will use the model to communicate performance expectations and requirements through the engineering lifecycle of various products and initiatives.

This specific role will have a focus on the aspects of vehicle performance that are most sensitive to changes in battery performance. Attributes like fast charge and thermal endurance will be daily topics of interest. There will be a high degree of collaboration with cell design teams, battery teams, thermal teams.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and enhance Tesla's in-house powertrain performance models to support vehicle architecture decisions and performance optimization
  • Create, use, and validate battery/cell models that accurately predict behavior under diverse conditions (e.g., fast charging, high-performance driving, extreme temperatures)
  • Integrate models into simulation frameworks for system-level validation and cross-team alignment
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (engineering, product, and data teams) to translate modeling insights into actionable design requirements and performance benchmarks

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • Excellentunderstanding of first-principles physics, including electrical systems, energy storage, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
  • Basic understandingin battery thermo-electrical interactions, ion/electron transfer processes, and electrochemical modeling
  • Proficiencyin powertrain component modeling (hybrid/electric) using tools likeMATLAB/Simulink,Python, or similar
  • Familiarity withvehicle-level simulations
  • Proficiency in numerical methods, differential equations, linear algebra, statistics, and optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Preference for working in teams
