OptumServe is the federal health services division of Optum, delivering medical exams, health services, and technology solutions that support U.S. military members, veterans, and federal agencies.

It provides nationwide clinical, operational, and IT capabilities-ranging from disability exams to large scale health programs-to improve access to high quality care and strengthen government health systems.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis, MN, La Crosse, WI or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Project Setup & Lifecycle Management
    • Oversee end-to-end project setup in Deltek, ensuring accurate configuration of contract terms, billing structures, and revenue recognition rules
    • Maintain compliance with government contracting requirements throughout the project lifecycle, including modifications and closeout
    • Collaborate with project managers and contract administrators to ensure proper alignment of financial data with contractual obligations
  • Revenue Recognition & Month-End Close
    • Manage timely and accurate revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP,ASC 606 and government contract standards
    • Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis for project-related accounts
  • Balance Sheet & Direct Cost Management
    • Monitor and reconcile balance sheet accounts related to projects (e.g., WIP, deferred revenue, prepaid costs)
    • Ensure proper tracking and allocation of direct contract costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses
    • Validate cost transfers and adjustments to maintain compliance with FAR and CAS requirements
  • System Expertise & Process Enhancement
    • Serve as a Deltek system subject matter expert, driving enhancements and process improvements for project accounting workflows
    • Partner with IT and finance teams on system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new modules
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for project accounting processes within Deltek
  • 5. Compliance & Audit Support
    • Ensure adherence to government contracting regulations and internal controls
    • Support internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations for project accounting transactions
    • Maintain readiness for DCAA audits, including incurred cost submissions and compliance reporting
  • Collaboration
    • Collaborate with finance, contracts, and operations teams to resolve issues and optimize project financial performance
    • Takes accountability for outcomes of decisions and is often managing competing priorities with tight deadlines
    • Proactively flags risks, not just errors
    • Operates with minimal supervision
    • Initiating, organizing, planning, and executing projects, as well as managing day-to-day operational functions across the organization

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Deltek Cost Point Experience
  • Experience successfully managing multiple requests, assessing priorities and achieving solutions under deadlines
  • Intermediate level of working knowledge of GAAP; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and senior management to drive sound business decisions
  • Project setup & structures
  • Unbilled AR, deferred revenue
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with reviewing complex work prepared by others
  • Experience mentoring others and providing technical guidance
  • Partner with IT on enhancements

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
