$101,025.60 - $181,854.40

This position will serve as a key member in the Nursing Division's Leadership Team. Responsible for the Nursing Division's fiscal management of the Memorial Campus. Acts as primary contact and liaison for leadership for operational issues pertaining to business and financial operations. Leads teams to integrate and coordinate cross campus critical business activities with the primary goal of maintaining quality while maximizing profitability. Responsibilities include planning and managing the administrative/business affairs of the University and Memorial campuses, which may include clinical, research, service and educational activities. Leads the development of business/strategic plans, collaborates to develop and manage the department's budget, assists in facilitating continuous improvements in operating efficiency, and collaborates with the coordination of the department's staffing activities. Responsible for fostering an environment that is highly responsive to patient and family needs, strong provider relations, and enhances efficiency and effectiveness.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Under the direction of the Senior Director Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis and the ACNOs, this position takes a lead role in identifying and promoting ways to continually improve both the human and supply resources of UMass Memorial's Nursing Division.
2. Assists Leadership in evaluating and initiating various departmental process changes, system changes or initiatives to maximize efficiency and reduce costs. Collaborates with the clinical leadership and staff as well as and other key departments. Acts as primary contact and liaison for leadership for operational issues pertaining to business and financial operations.
3. Develops business plans, including analysis of startup needs, space and facility needs, human resource needs, capital investment needs, and financial projections for existing or proposed programs and services.
4. Collaborates with managers/leadership to develop budgets, track expenditures, identify variances and facilitates changes in practice to optimize patient outcomes while controlling costs on a daily basis. Works with clinical leadership in the development of financial Corrective Action Plans and measures progress against the plans to bring department back on budget.
5. Performs data and cost analysis. Prepares analytical reports to assess product usage history and identify trends. Monitors profit and loss statements to measure operating unit's activities, and financial performance. Implements changes as indicated by activity and performance measures to assure maximum effectiveness, and efficiency quality of service.
6. Collaborates with Clinical Leadership to investigate alternatives to achieving implementation and/or improvement of clinical process improvement projects. Implements changes as necessary.
7. Identifies, evaluates, and makes fiscally responsible recommendations regarding resource needs for the quality improvement related systems to the department, to include finances, materials, human resources, capital, and space. Devises funding strategies.
8. Oversees non-salary expense management for the division including supply standardization, specialty beds and linen.
9. Coordinates trials on new products and equipment. Evaluates cost-benefit and comparative cost reviews for prospective new products. Presents findings to Leadership.
10. Participates on the Labor Management team for MNAMH and is responsible for grievances relating to pay practices and the Guaranteed Vacation process.
11. Responsible for personnel management of the Nursing Business Operations department (both campuses), the Nursing Resource Office (Memorial campus) and the 24/7 Staffing Office (Memorial campus).
12. Advises the roll-out of Kronos Preferred Scheduling and the SMS Quickfill process.
13. Identifies trends and appraises causes and effects and highlights opportunities to improve performance. Gathers, selects, and utilizes information on appropriate healthcare industry operational performance benchmarks to establish the most appropriate standards and reporting methodology (performance metrics) to foster on-going improvements in operating efficiency and process improvements. Facilitates alignment between the improvement initiatives and the strategic plan of the Medical Center and Health System.
14. Prepares reports for outside agencies on behalf of senior management as needed.
15. Serves as a project manager as needed.

1. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
2. Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
3. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
4. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
5. Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
7. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
8. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
9. Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
10. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
11. Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
12. Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
13. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
14. Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Healthcare Administration, or related program.

Preferred:
1. Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, Healthcare Administration, or related program.

Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. Three years of previous management experience.
2. Eight years' experience in complex healthcare setting.
3. Strong analytical skills required to perform various data analysis techniques, review statistical/budgetary information and synthesize information appropriately. Knowledge of Healthcare accounting techniques, cost/benefit comparisons, analysis of budget variances and staffing resources.
4. Excellent judgment, objectivity, ability to work with others. Superior teamwork skills, both as a leader and member of a team.
5. Effective change management skills.
6. Project management experience.
7. Ability to effectively utilize spreadsheet and database software for data analysis and management (e.g. Excel, Access, etc.).

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
