In Consumer Marketing, we transform how customers discover, compare, and take action on Windows, Surface, and Copilot on the web.

We are seeking a Content Strategy Lead to own the content strategy and execution for our consumer web portfolio across Windows, Surface, and Copilot journeys. This role sets the editorial direction, builds scalable operating mechanisms through an outsourced writer bench, and ensures our web experiences are clear, persuasive, on-brand, and measurable.

We are looking for someone who blends editorial leadership, web content strategy, search engine optimization (SEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO) copy strategy, and operational rigor. You can translate business priorities into messaging frameworks and modular copy systems that perform in search and answer engines, while staying clear, on-brand, legally safe, and measurable.

Responsibilities
  • Set portfolio content strategy and narrative system:Define narrative pillars, messaging frameworks, audience intent principles, and how content supports acquisition, education, comparison, and conversion across the portfolio.
  • Own core web journey copy for priority experiences:Write and edit launch and evergreen copy for top pages, modules, and flows, delivering conversion-ready, on-brand messaging with clear approvals.
  • Own the content marketing hub strategy and program:Define hub purpose, topic and entity architecture, information architecture, editorial calendar, formats, and distribution hooks that connect hub content into key journeys and marketing moments.
  • Publish quarterly research white papers and derivatives:Create one quarterly white paper from industry and customer research, then repurpose it into a content package (hub articles, core-page modules, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and social/email-ready snippets) to support key journeys.
  • Define SEO and AEO copy strategy and governance:Set standards for intent alignment, on-page information design, structured answer-ready patterns, snippet and summary-friendly writing, internal linking strategy, and ongoing optimization rules.
  • Build scalable content systems and quality standards:Establishmodular copy patterns, page hierarchy guidelines, voice and tone, readability and accessibility patterns, legal-safe language conventions, and localization readiness standards.
  • Operationalize production through agencies:Lead the agency writer bench with capacity planning, brief and template systems, training, QA reviews, delivery tracking, and performance scorecards to ensure predictable quality at scale.
  • Run content operations and performance optimization:Own intake and prioritization, review and publishing workflows, content inventories and governance routines, and partner with analytics to measure impact, manage a refresh backlog, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years proven writing or content design experience AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) project leadership experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years demonstrated growth in writing or content design AND a certification, degree, or training in English, Writing, Human-centered Design, Literature, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years project leadership experience.
  • The ability to provide a portfolio of relevant work for review
  • Experience owning messaging and copy across high-traffic web experiences, including modular components and customer journeys and localization workflows.
  • Experience scaling content production through agencies or outsourced writer benches, including quality governance and delivery accountability.
  • Experience building content operating mechanisms, including intake, briefs, approvals, inventories, and quality standards that reduce rewrite loops and increase speed.
  • Experience using analytics, testing, and SEO signals to prioritize and optimize content.
  • Experience with SEO and emerging answer engine optimization practices, including structured, retrieval-friendly content patterns.
  • Experience leading headless content management systems (CMS) workflows, structured content modeling, and enterprise content governance, with a focus on modular content reuse across personalization and experimentation systems.


Writing IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
