Description

OVERVIEW:

The Cook reports to the Food Services Manager and supports meal preparation for the San Francisco Harbor Light Center in a sevendayaweek kitchen.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist with food preparation, meal service, and cleanup
  • Prepare meals according to planned menus
  • Set up workstations with required ingredients and equipment
  • Keep the kitchen and food service areas clean and sanitized
  • Prepare ingredients (chop, peel, cut, etc.)
  • Monitor food quality during cooking
  • Follow all nutrition, sanitation, and safety guidelines
  • Properly store food and supplies
  • Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor with all individuals
  • Complete California Adult Food Program records, including attendance and meal production logs
  • Assist with special meal preparation for programs and activities
  • Follow direction from the Food Services Manager, Sous Chef, and/or Executive Director
  • Other related duties as required


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • California Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certificate (required)
  • Experience in an institutional cooking setting or similar (1 year preferred)
  • Experience with commercial kitchen tools and equipment
  • Tuberculosis clearance (within first seven days of employment - company provided)


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods
  • Team player
  • Great communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment


EQUIPMENT USED:



  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
  • Relevant kitchen equipment


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing and movement during shifts
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion; exposure to heat and kitchen equipment
  • Manual dexterity to safely operate kitchen tools and equipment
